AmericInn by Wyndham Johnston Des Moines, hotel in Urbandale

Located along Interstates 80 and 35, this Johnston motel is 2 miles from the Des Moines city center. Offering a daily hot breakfast with waffles, each guest room features a flat-screen TV.

Good place to stay for the weary traveler. Very quiet. The window faced the pool area, which I thought would be bad, but it kept the highway noise out. When I checked-in, the front desk attendant was nice enough to give me two bottles of water after asking if there was water available. I really appreciated it.

The manger or owner was very rude i called to do a early check in i was told yes when i arrived i seen two room both were dirty . I was having a romantic night and set the room with the décor and i was told if i didn't clean up the mess i was going to be charges extra $100 . I told him it does not say we cant decorate in the description and I paid for the room which was a $80 room and I paid $134 that was included the cleaning fee so I was not going to clean up after myself. He was mad but its the hotel job to do the cleaning . i will not go back .

Hotel is older, however it has been updated. Bed & pillows were very comfortable. The pillow cases/covers had stitching labeling them, “soft” & “firm” Hotel is very clean. Service was great. Staff was very friendly. Nice big lobby. Definitely worth the money.

The best thing is a hidden gem called Asian Buffet!

The best thing is a hidden gem called Asian Buffet! Go there, you will be so glad you did! I'm familiar with the area and have family there, but this area is close to a lot of amenities and shops. I also like that downtown Des Moines is a short drive as I do not like to be in the middle of downtown, but I like to have a lot of choices around me. This is a quiet place close to the interstate with easy access and easy to find.

This location is too close to the highway.

This location is too close to the highway. Traffic noise, all night long...loud enough to constantly wake a deeper sleeper like myself. The bed was definitely not “most comfortable hotel bed - you’ll never want to get out of bed” It was so firm and short, I couldn’t wait for morning to come to leave!

We couldn't go on a long vacation because of covid, so we went to Adventureland/bay, also visited Living History Farms. We ate at Machine Shed for supper first night - Awesome meal and service. Ate at Fazoli's and Culvers the next two days. Worked out well. Easy to get around.

The hotel is well located right off the highway The central elevator made it easy to take our dog outside for a quick night time visit Grassy area for pets. Unless you are traveling alone, spend a few dollars more for a queen suite. The single queen room was a bit small. Lots of fast food and restaurant options for dinner. Free breakfast simple but better than nothing. Pet fee $20- higher than most. $10-15 is more appropriate. Beds comfortable and room very clean

The staff was friendly. The on-site Boss Pizza Restaurant and Bar was excellent and reasonably priced. Our room had plenty of space for the 5 of us. I like the 2 doors in the room. One door entered from the back hallway, and the second door entered the pool, arcade, tiki bar, and restaurant. The pool/waterpark had at least 6 lifeguards, which was very nice to see. Most hotels usually have a sign simply stating no lifeguard on duty.

Older hotel showing signs of age but clean and comfortable. Hot breakfast included eggs and sausage, waffle maker. Pool was nice and clean, water was warm per my kids. No hot tub/locker room/shower but plenty of clean towels. Perfect for an overnight with kids during a long road trip. Bring a sound machine, traffic is loud all night being so close to the road.

It was an accessible room. Bedroom was great, shower was perfect to get in and out with shower head in the right place with flexible shower head. Biggest disappointment was the doors getting into the hotel were not automatic or have accessible automatic opener. Very difficult to open a door in a wheelchair with no way to get through two outer doors.

Good location, clean, good staff. I submitted a review saying that we had been charged again a couple of days later and it rather spoiled the stay… having just messaged directly through Booking.com the hotel responded with in a few mins to say they had rectified the situation, sincerely apologising… top marks to AmericInn at Des Moines 😁

The staff was friendly and helpful when anything was needed...did a good job handling a lot of folks at once. I liked the easy access to highways and other locations of interest to us whether close by or across town. The hotel was quiet, both in terms of noise inside as well as outside noise that would have been distracting.

The desk clerk was great. Our room smelled like wet dog - not sure what your pet policy is. The rest of the room was clean and the bed was very comfy. There were no hair dryers in the room and the few at the front desk were all gone, so I had to leave the hotel with wet, undone hair.
