Way better than Austin in so many ways. Funky yet unpretentious. Low key yet adventure everywhere. Jump in the San Marcos river from so many spots around town and since it's spring fed it's not only crystal clear but the water is 72 degrees year round. Head to "the Square" for shopping and make sure to take in the rock sounds of Our Last Daze as well as Maddie and The Deadnames!

Having spent a few days in Austin, whilst it was great for shops and eating out it was harder for parking and driving in rush hour took a bit of getting used to not being used to drive on the right hand side.
San Marco was smaller, more places to walk and enough facilities for if you want a more nature oriented trip. I fished two stretches of river there with a guide so it was a good place to be based for that. The park/water park is also a nice relaxing place to spend a few days.

Lots of road construction and traffic.
Lots of road construction and traffic. Very hard to get around. Ate at Garcias, San Marcos Barbeque and Blacks. Ok food but not exceptional. Heat was oppressive. 105degrees. Didn't explore the area much. Went for a convention.

San Marcos is a kayakers paradise. Close proximity to the San Marcos, Guadalupe, and Blanco Rivers. The Power's Olympic Outdoor Center is in town, with an ex- olympic paddler and world class big boater for an instructor. Several excellent live music venues nearby.

Where do i begin.....
Where do i begin.....A/C turned on and lamp behind chair malfunctioned.....breakfast was a joke, brown paper bag with 3 prepackaged items inside (oatmeal cream pie, breakfast bar and a danish) phone didnt work, drapes/curtains were tore up leaving a gap in the window, no coffee maker in room which was stated to have, trash all behind the TV, hallway was filthy, bed bugs on floor and window seal, and back parking lot door was not accessible!! DO NOT STAY HERE, NOT WORTH $152. Even front desk employee said yall ALWAYS hike up prices during graduation. DEFINATELY NOT WORTH THE PRICE OR STAY
The hotel is conveniently situated for access to the I-35 (no long U-turns required regardless of whether you want to drive I-35 North or I-35 South). Breakfast was open, and even with hot options! The room was very clean and spacious. The front desk staff/manager so friendly and professional. Very happy this property survived all of the shutdowns. All in all, a great stay. We look forward to our next visit!
I booked this hotel through Booking. Thought the King Suite was a lot bigger and had a roll out sofa. There was no difference between the two rooms I booked which was a Suite and a Standard room. Nonetheless, we did not stay here. I should have done more research on this because our booking was nonrefundable. The lady at the counter could not help with more accomodations.
Clean hotel with friendly staff. Good breakfast with many choices. Oatmeal, eggs, bacon or sausage, cold cerals, yogurt and fresh fruits. Coffee and tea are always available. There's a nice snack and necessities room. Bathroom was very clean, nice towels and comfortable bed and pillows. Staff was very responsive with a problem we had.
I had friends come to San Marcos for a birthday celebration and wanted a more personal experience for them than a regular motel could offer. We sat outside and enjoyed the night by the pool under the stars.
Roman the host is very nice and accommodating.
It was a nice hotel. Breakfast was good. Room clean and complete. Only thing was you could hear the Neighbour, but that is in most hotels. I would stay there again when I am on the road again.
I have spent 11 nights in the hotel. The staff has done everything they could to make my stay comfortable. The staff is kind, inclusive, and ready to assist as much as possible.
i like how the bed felt really comfortable, the room was really clean, it was really big and it was also quiet, i would love to you at that hotel again
