The breakfast buffet was very good and the quality of treatments at the spa did not disapoint.
However, we were disappointed with the general professionalism of the staff considering it is a 5 star resort. The staff was kind and friendly but just not up to the standard one would expect of a 5 star hotel. Here are a few examples: at the pool we ordered some food and when we were going to sign for the bill, the waiter said they had made a mistake and charged us for a dish that was 0.50 USD more than what we had ordered. He asked us if we didn't mind paying the extra amount so that they didn't need to redo the bill. Of course we didn't mind as its such a small difference (so we accepted) but out of principle, if a mistake is made by the staff, they should know to just fix the error rather than asking the guest to make up for their mistake (however small). We were also disappointed at dinner that the two a la carte restaurants were only open on alternate nights as it meant we couldn't get a table until 9 pm which is late with kids. Also the first wines we tried to order were out of stock. Finally on the second night at the Italian, three of the dishes we chose were unavailable. This is understandable as it is end of season, but again is not expected at a 5 star hotel. That said, the quality of the food at the Italian was really very good.
As for the rooms, although comfortable, the extra maintenance effort is lacking. The hot and cold water in the shower was very difficult to control; the light in the small magnifying mirror in the bathroom was not working and the main telephone in the room did not work.
Lastly, we visited the spa and although the overall experience was very good and the therapists were experienced, it was disappointing to have to wait over half an hour (after our scheduled appointment time) for our treatments.
Overall, this felt more of a 3-4 star hotel than 5 star.

The hotel itself probably needs an uplift e.g. pool deck is old, pool lounge chairs are broken, walls need a new coat of paint, however we enjoyed our stay as the pool and hotel surroundings are quite nice. Food at the restaurant was surprisingly good. Room was large and air cond worked well, beds are big. Bathroom needs updating but shower was strong and good temperature. Overall, a good hotel but don’t expect 5 stars.

A short distance from Colombo, Katutura is ideal for a long weekend if you are based in Colombo. There are plenty of things to see in the area and you can always arrange a visit to Galle through your hotel.

Just the right location.
Just the right location. Not too far from Colombo but has the nice secluded feel, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Close to a lot of places to visit - Kalutara temple, Bentota for water sports, Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery.
Overall, a great place to be in!!

The area is quite, and not far from water sports activities.
The area is quite, and not far from water sports activities. The problem is that there are no decent restaurants or coffees near by. You are opted to only eat at the hotel, unless you are adventurous. You are better off to go a bit more south or north and close to the capital to find reasonable restaurants and coffees etc. If you like to each and just stay within the resort then you will be OK as hotels in the area offer everything you need.

Kalutara is a great place for a short stay.
Kalutara is a great place for a short stay. While it is not as crowded with tourists and activities when compared with her neighbouring districts Colombo and Galle, it is quite special in it's own simplicity. The sights generally known to see are few and are quite close too each other. A day to sightsee and enjoy the city, a day to enjoy the hotel and it's facilities and a day for the beach and surrounding neighbourhood is in my opinion the ideal way to plan a trip to Kalutara.
The best place you must visit in my opinion is Jeoffrey Bava's garden. The place is great to walk around, take some beautiful photos and run around a little.
The Awesome food :) it was so scrumptious that we enjoyed every bite of it. Specially to dine at the front face of the vast river, was something to add to our travel diary. We have never had this experience at any of the other properties we stayed at. Kurokawa we must say, is a cozy comfy villa in the down south non sea side, which is one of a kind and the only non seas side villa in reasonable distance from the Kalutara town, that stands out
The breakfast was wonderful, served fresh everyday by Stanley at what ever time we wanted it.
Omelette of my choice and Sri Lankan sausages followed by toast and marmalade. This was followed by a fresh fruit salad prepared by Stanley or Sisi ( Sisi is the owner). All served with a pot or two of Ceylon tea.
Nothing was to much trouble for these two wonderful guys.
We had very pleasant stay. Great location, helpfull staff and very nice owner that even gave us his number in case anything goes wrong on oir trip. Which we actually needed the very day we left the hotel and he helped us
Thank you!
Rooms are large, clean, everything was perfect. Oh yes and we had few shots with the owner which was pleasant.
We had a great experience with the Hibiscus Beach hotel & Villas at Kalutara Sri Lanka. Staff was incredibly helpful and the amenities were great. The room was wonderful and clean. The hotel owner and staff were really nice and helpful. Twin room was spacious and clean. There is plenty of tables to hang out in front of the hotel right on the beach, also balconies. On New Year night the hotel through a party with great food and plenty of fireworks. The area is quite and not crowded with tourists.
The staff make this hotel, every one of them were so nice. A special mention to Abi who looked after us from the start. The pool is amazing, spacious sunbeds, pool towels provided. Buffet Restaurant and bar brilliant.
Brilliant place. Staff are very very nice and helpful. Best food I had in Sri Lanka. Lovely pool and sunbeds..Really big room with balcony and views. Very peaceful location close to beach and town.
