This is not a unique format for Japan, but I liked how it was executed.
The rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated. The room itself is conducive to physical and mental relaxation.

Absolutely surpassed my expectation as I'd thought it was a hostel but it turned out to be a dorm room within a great hotel! Highly recommend to opt for the food included (especially dinner) as it's a sumptuous 6-course meal with limitless alcohol. Great way to try the cuisine of Japan. The common room also had beautiful views of the lake, free snacks and drinks (including alcohol), games and hammocks. The onsen was great! Everything was clean and to a high standard. They also gave slippers, free toiletries and yukatas.
