It was a semi-basement room for 1 night. The room was very large and modern. Very comfortable bed and an outside area with an umbrella and chairs and table with a lovely view of the sea. Very helpful and friendly owner. Well worth staying here!

Spacious and well-designed room with a small patio overlooking the sea. The room was thoughtfully organized with plenty of outlets and light switches at strategic locations. Strong AC and Wi-Fi. Conveniently located to the port. Thorough housekeeping. Do not miss the excellent, unaffiliated restaurant located just up the hill behind the space.

Great host (Loukas) - provided transport to and from the ferry, facilitated a quick check-in and gave us the island basics.
Makares is just a short walk to the center of the village.
Great seaview, clean - as advertised. Felt comfortable to spend a couple of days there.

No Breakfast. Location was great (in the heart of the village), provided that you are not looking for a sea-view location.
Building is brand new (a year old) and the owner runs 2 other properties on the island so he's very experienced and this shows in the construction of the building (materials) as well as facilities and amenities.

Beautiful little island, unspoiled original Greece. 110 permanent inhabitants, 350 cats, a donkey, some wild goats and fortunately not too many tourists. No need for a car (there is no petrol station). There is a taxi and minibus service and a fishing boat to get to various beaches. No organized beaches so water, food and a beach umbrella are definitely recommended.

An absolute gem of an island, quaint and peaceful.
An absolute gem of an island, quaint and peaceful. If you want to get away from it all and experience a pure island, I would suggest that you visit Donoussa.
All of the local people were so friendly and hospitable, I want to return, hopefully in the near future.
We stayed at Stenosa, which we would definitely recommend. Beautifully appointed rooms, exquisitely furnished and the most wonderful hosts, who made us feel so welcomed.

Donousa is a small island, perfect if you want only relaxing and not having to drive 40-50 minutes and more to go to a beach. It has 4 main beaches: Stavros (next to the port, but that doesn't mean the water is dirty - on the contrary it's very clear and nice), Kedros (accessible through a 15 minute walk tops), Livadi (accessible by car and then a walk for 20-25 minutes or, better, by a small boat), Fokospilia (where you can go only by boat and dive) and Kalotaritissa (25-30 minutes drive with car, taxi or the local bus if you are lucky and it's working properly).
I can't say i enjoyed the food. I found some good options, mostly in the restaurant Iliovasilema. Some told me Agnanti and Ampelaki are also good. I would not recommend strongly any other. Maybe the tavern in Kalotaritissa.
I liked that the island has many cats and the locals are taking care of them.
As for the nightlife, the place to be is Skantzohiros (it's exactly across the port). You can chat, you can flirt, you can dance. A friend who has been there 3 times told me about the bar at the beach Stavros, but i never saw too many people there.
If i had to rate mh experience, i would rate it with 7/10

Donousa is a quite island that is highly recommended for relaxing vacations.
There are a couple of places to have a drink, several places to eat, a mini market, a grocery and a bakery.
The island is small and it does not really need a car since you can go to the other two villages with the local bus that connects the port with them.
The beaches are beautiful.
Be prepared that there is no much shadow (bring a beach umbrella!)
You will fully enjoy beautiful beaches and nice food!
There are also paths for hiking from where you can enjoy magnificent view of the Aegean sea.
For years, Donousa was a place for free camping but this year (2020) the local authorities forbid it. So for you free campers, stay tuned and get the latest update before deciding to go.
There are enough rooms to accommodate visitors, however since it is a small island, for peak season make sure to reserve your room early enough.

Donoussa is the Greece I remember but with a little more comfort. A very laid back island with excellent beaches, wild landscapes and amazing restaurants. If you want fast paced with lots to do don’t come. If you want a touch of magic, authenticity and to slow down and appreciate the simple pleasures this is for you.
I recommend llivasilema for a sunset dinner, kedros for a laid back beach experience and stunning cliff top view. Catch the bus or boat or if your fit walk!

It was such a peaceful, low-key island, so if you’re into that, I highly recommend it. Being there infuses you with a sense of freedom not felt in the same way on some of the other more touristy islands.
Also, I found that Donousa had some of the best food I’ve had on my travels to the Greek islands. While the island doesn’t have a whole host of restaurants, the ones they do have are delicious (Agnanti, Mitsos, Iliovasilema).
