Stamford is a beautiful Georgian market town with lots of things to do and places to visit nearby. Shopping is very enjoyable as there are plenty of independent shops as well as the usual clothing chains. The Friday open air market was excellent and there were lots of bargains to be had. The choice of restaurants and cafes was very good. We can recommend Amore for its Italian cuisine and Kancchi for Indian/ Nepalese food, but would advise that you book in advance if possible.

I love old character buildings and this certainly is a lovely old character building.
The location is good with most amenities in Stamford within a ten to fifteen minute walk.
On site parking is a bonus.
Would I stay again ? Yes, very much so, whilst there were a couple of little niggles overall I enjoyed the experience.

Easy to get around hills are gentle and manageable for those with limited walking. The Hong Kong Chinese restaurant is very good, but needs to be booked as tables go quickly. Street market on Fridays and a lots of boutique shops. The St Martins Antique centre offers a extensive range of interesting collectables.
Premium Taxis are very reasonable £3.00 from the High Street back to the William Cecil Hotel.

Stamford a picturesque market town in the south western...
Stamford a picturesque market town in the south western district of Lincolnshire accommodating 17th and 18th century stone buildings creating a quaint charming characterful location amongst half-timbered Elizabethan housing and 5 medieval parish churches.
The Romans built Erasmine Street across what is now Burghley Park Estate and forded to the River Welland west of Stamford also built a town north of Great Casterton on the River Gwash. In 61 AD Boudica of the Iceni followed the Roman Legion Legio IX Hispana across the river. The Anglo-Saxon later chose Stamford as the main town and appeared in the Doomsday Book 1086 as Stanford.
As the Great North Road passed through Stamford which became a halting town for travellers, Henry VIII, Queen Elizabeth, James I and Charles I all passed through making a post station for the Postal Service during Elizabeth I reign. In 1663 an Act of Parliament passed and setup turnpikes creating a significant difference to wealth and prosperity of Stamford.

We stayed for our 13th anniversary, immediately disappointed to find that a dinner jacket and smart shoes were needed to dine in the formal dining room. If booking.com had stated that this was needed i would have brought with me. We decided to eat elsewhere and come back for drinks later in the evening, the hotel bars/snugs and reading rooms are extremely cosy, the hotel is an ideal location to visit the surrounding area and Stamford. Breakfast was excellent and the staff made us feel extremely welcome.
Great location, walking distance to everything as really close to town center, easy access with convenient parking, very well equipped, has lovely cozy courtyard area with pretty lighting and flowers/shrubs. The property is situated approx. 100ft from the Stamford Meadows which has open grass areas, a pretty river running through it and wonderful views of Stamford

breakfast was excellent and varied in bar area of hotel.
we met family and friends and ate in hotel the night before - food was excellent and reasonable price.
hotel is local to a lovely town centre with lots to see and a market on a friday.
The house is lovely. Room was sparkling clean, spacious, bed was very comfortable, bathroom was spotless. Katie is really nice and she offered a delicious breakfast. Location was incredibly convenient, 2min away (if that) from the station, and a short walk to Stamford's city centre.
We enjoyed a fun and magical Christmas Eve and Christmas Day staying at Stamford Glamping Meadows. The Yurt was really comfortable for our family of four including two teenage kids. Amelia and Yogi were brilliant hosts and really accommodating. Thanks for having us!
This was probably the best experience of the many hotels we have stayed at. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. The room was excellent and the food good (although maybe a little expensive). The grounds and walks were superb.
A pretty room, tasty dinner, very convenient for The Corn Exchange, helpful staff and a delicious breakfast cooked just to our liking.
We’d definitely recommend The Crown Hotel for a stay in Stamford and we look forward to returning soon.
Very good location with a short walk into Stamford. Excellent staff - very friendly and helpful. Hotel not too big, so it keeps that nice friendly atmosphere in the bar if you eat or drink there. Will definately stay there again.
We chose this hotel because we knew it was on the edge of Stamford with a good sized car park. It also has a back gate entrance in Burghley Park and is within easy walking distance of the town centre shops, bars and restaurants.
Great location in a small village near Stamford, easy access to A1.The pub looked lovely though we didn't use it as we went out to dinner and needed somewhere local to stay. Would happily stay there again.
Katie was just the most brilliant host really warm and friendly making sure all my needs were met
fabrastic breakfast beautiful house and a great location close to the George Hotel in Stamford

The most beautiful location convenient for Stamford Burghley etc The hosts were wonderful and super helpful. Our stay was relaxing and peaceful and exactly what we were looking for.
Fantastic position. Close to Stamford centre yet really quiet. Big bonus to have a garage connected to the property. Having 2 separate bathrooms was very useful.
The apartments we rented were exceptional. Beautifully decorated and situated right in the centre of Stamford. The host was super helpful and responsive.
