It's been some years since my last visit to South Shields and hopefully it won't be as long until next time. Shields is a great family place. The beaches are stunning and you are spoiled for choice for places to eat and drink. We only had 3 nights and had an 11 month baby with us but we managed to get to the Rattler, Harbour Lights,Ruhindi, Spanish Italian and my son and daughter in-law went to the Sand Dancer. Everywhere was great and the restaurant staff in all venues could not have been more welcoming and attentive especially to the baby. We also managed a trip to Marsden Grotto. Fabulous. Well worth a visit.

South Shields is a coastal town with beautiful golden beaches and a fairground close to the Littlehaven hotel. There is a Roman fort only a 20 minute walk from the hotel. Very easy access to Newcastle City using their Metro system. Great to visit castles in Northumberland or the Beamish site in Durham.

My mobility scooter gave me freedom to get round so I took full advantage of that. We went along the front from the Little Haven hotel
Saw the conversation stones then went along to the amusements and rides, about to open and staff very cheery despite the windy weather. We crossed over to the park and it was,
at this point we decided we had to return in the future and bring the young ones as,they would have great fun with so much to do. Pleasantly surprised at the number of eateries and the different choices of meals. Stopped at a lovely Cafe overlooking the beach for a hot drink before going back to the hotel.I would highly recommend South Shields for a break away

Use South Sheilds as a base to visit the North East Coastline and towns. Sadly South Sheilds town centre is very run downand lacks any good shops and bars.
On the positive the beach front is excellent and well maintained and for the Curry lovers Ocean Road has many fabulous Indian restaurants.
I would highly recommend Cafe India and for Beach side drink the Sandancer.

An outstanding seaside town that, if it was on the South coast of England would be the most fashionable resort, beating Brighton hands down. It's got history, superb beaches, cliff top walks, quirky pubs, wildlife and very friendly people

South Shields has a stunning coastline, lovely parks,...
South Shields has a stunning coastline, lovely parks, interesting history and has an excellent range of restaurants and shops and good public transport. It's a friendly welcoming place. The main streets are easy to negotiate on foot as the layout is mainly straight lines/grid ? from its Roman history. There's a museum and art gallery, an information centre with a great section of archive material. All in all a lovely place to visit.
Nothing really we know it was cheap but the room was so small , damp walls , bedding not clean , looks like it hadn't been cleaned properly , smelt of other people's food no hangers in wardrobe , door on room looked like it been broken into and a new lock out on didn't close properly you had to push it hard to lock it bed uncomfortable you could feel.the springs , just as well we were not in room much
The property was in a great location, a short walk to the promenade and as we had a concert it was easy to get to the stadium by taxi. The staff got back to you via message or call as the hotel is not manned. The codes and access were easy to navigate and staff were polite. There was tea and coffee stocked up and overall I would say a comfortable stay apart from some slight niggles.
We had a twin room and the beds and pillows were exceptionally comfortable, unlike many large chain hotels. I was particularly impressed with the value for money: This place was cheaper than many of the properties nearby so I was expecting a low standard but was very pleasantly surprised to find it was actually better than some of the others I have stayed in.
The staff and the owners were brilliant hosts. Liz and Scott and all the staff went above and beyond with helping us charging our electric vehicle. They made awesome cocktails and we felt so welcome. I would definitely recommend the Clifton Hotel if you are planing a trip to South shields. Keep up the great work guys. Catherine and John
The private parking was a real benefit. The hotel position in Westhoe Village is good for access to shops and amenities plus close to a fabulous beach, close to a Metro station at Chichester or South Shields. The rooms were clean and tidy with extra heating to each room and bedding to be warm and comfortable.
It is in a good location just tucked off the main seafront road. You’ve got a lot of takeaways and restaurants on your doorstep. Short walk to the beach and amusements.
Guest House was clean and tidy. Games room is a great addition.
...
Holes in walls ,broken doors ,hair in shower .very outdated ,heaters noisy .very cold and small ,could not dress in bedroom as no room .not going backits far too expensive .premier Inn was 100£ cheaper on the same weekend
excellent location and very friendly staff. The hotel was clean but starting to look a little tired in places .
The food for the evening meal was alright rather than
good but the breakfast selection was very good
I have stayed at the little haven loads of times.
The staff make this hotel they are so kind and friendly and take the time out to make you feel so welcome.
The location and the view is absolutely unbeatable
A lovely little Guest House in a great location on Ocean Road. The hosts Lorraine and Andrew were really welcoming and very helpful.
If we return to this area, would love to stay at this place once again.
the location is spot on - really excellent place. bedrooms are nice and clean, bathrooms too. It's always by GO TO place to stay when in South Shields - I honestly don't think you can beat it.
the house and rooms were beautiful and in a superb location on ocean road and near to 2 beautiful parks and 1 doggy friendly beach and 1 not. absolutely stunning love South shields.
The location is perfect for a stay at the beach, especially with very hot weather. From the South Shields Metro station there is also a convenient connection to the city.
