The Barnsdale, Rutland, hotel in Oakham

Nestled close to the shores of Rutland Water, just 5 minutes’ drive from Oakham and a 50-minute drive from Leicester.

The staff members were all very friendly and helpful. The room was pleasant and clean. Breakfast was delicious and Sue, who seemed to be in charge was exceptionally good at her job. The room and breakfast were good value for money. I will definitely stay again.

Good location at the centre of Oakham. Some bottled water provided - probably because it would have been impossible to fill the kettle from the tiny sink in the bathroom. The shower functioned.

I love the scenery, the wildlife, I'm a walker, so great walks, the town of oakham has everything u need, but what I like most is it's not commercialised, still a pretty little market town.i also used train & went to peterborough, the parking at the station was only £2.50 for the whole day. I had lunch one day at a lovely little cafe tucked in the corner of the market Square called Hungry Birds.

There are some pretty villages around in this area. Also, of course, Rutland Water is a great attraction, with walks, cycle rides and many water activities. Oakham itself has the remains of a castle with a tearoom.

Peaceful location, lovely courtyard room with everything needed, including a very comfortable bed. Fantastic breakfast and excellent evening meal on the day we chose to eat there. It was nice staying next to the bar - we could have a drink in the evening without worrying about who was going to drive. We're not golfers, but learned a bit about the sport while we were there! Also was great to be so close to the Nature Reserve and able to walk around Rutland Water.

Barnsdale Lodge was a great location as we were visiting Barnsdale Gardens for afternoon tea etc. Our plan the next day was to walk across the dam and more at Rutland Water. A visit into Oakham and Melton Mowbray. So a super location. Our room over looked the Courtyard and was clean and well stocked with tea/coffee/biscuits etc. Staff were helpful and friendly all around. Breakfast had a good choice and set you up for the day.

The location was excellent. The room, with its lakeview was exceptional. We met up with family who came from East Yorkshire and we spent the day touring the area before they left for home. They, too, were impressed with our hotel and took several photos.
