I especially like the location of the hotel. It is very close to the castle and cathedral. This was my second stay at Castle Hotel, and plan to stay there in the future.

The staff were brilliant, especially the receptionists- mention Lilian in particular. Made every effort to reserve a room for us when our daughter was taken ill and was genuinely concerned. Very many thanks. Her morning colleague was exceptional too.For this very reason we may book again.

Lincoln was a powerhouse of medieval England and retains amazing monuments from that period. In the Uphill district is the castle built for William the Conqueror. Inside its an original copy of the Magna Carta and its ramparts offer fabulous city views. Across the cobbled square which houses the large Christmas market is huge Lincoln Cathedral whose unusual façade features 2 tall towers, while another at its centre overlooks the Bishop’s Palace.
Connecting the cathedral quarter with the Downhill district is aptly named Steep Hill, a narrow street lined with unique shops and historic buildings including the Jew’s House. Even older are the Roman Newport Arch, Mint Wall and the well on Bailgate.
This road slopes down to meet the River Witham at High Bridge, a stone-arched structure with a half-timbered building atop that is the oldest of its kind in England. Lincoln boat trips depart from the Brayford Pool just west.
Another monument is the 18th-century Ellis Mill, opposite the Museum of Lincolnshire Life. The Collection combines an archaeology museum and art gallery, while The Lawn has a conference centre and the Joseph Banks Conservatory, displaying artefacts he brought back from adventures with Captain Cook.
Booking.com’s Lincoln accommodation covers luxury waterfront hotels, guest houses by the university and cheap apartments near the train station.

Love it all, from the shopping on the high street, the wonderful new Corn Exchange area and on up steep hill to the cathedral/castle quarter.
We would recommend the free walking tours, we did the Roman history one and Matt our guide was brilliant, showing us remnants of the roman walls and giving us a visual idea of how things were.
There are plenty of pubs and bars to choose from but we particularly loved the Magna Carta, which had a brilliant band playing on the night we went in.
Lincoln is brilliant and I love it!

History, shopping, and a great big hill!
History, shopping, and a great big hill! Well worth the effort walking up Steep Hill to get the inspirational Cathedral atop; plus there are plenty of boutique shops to pop in on the way for a rest. As a bonus for the kids is that there's a good ice-cream parlour at the bottom and a local fudge shop almost at the top!

We liked the numerous places to eat.
We liked the numerous places to eat. We enjoyed visiting inside the Castle, the walk around the Castle walls, and seeing the Magna Carta. The steep walk was an enjoyable bit of exercise. We were disappointed at the cost of and limited access to the Cathedral, I really expected to be able to enjoy and discover more of its splendour.

Having been at school in Lincoln and lived there until the middle 1980s I was not expecting the wonderful improvement that has occurred - largely I suspect as a result of the relatively new university being established there. The vibrancy of both the city and the ancient exhibits (Norman Castle and Cathedral; Roman remains; Museums and Library all seemed to be as good as anywhere I’ve been and the buzz about the City was evident in that I think I detected only one shop that did not appear to be either occupied or under change for a new occupier - in stark contrast to Salisbury that I visited last year. In particular, Brayford Pool - a Roman artificial lake/pool as a terminus on the navigable River Witham - has been transformed as the main focus of Lincoln University and is buzzing with not only student life but a waterside complex of both national and local restaurants, hotels (Hilton etc) and marinas. I only stayed for 3 days as I thought, from memory, that I could just revisit my old haunts but I intend to come back for a much longer stay.

The old parts around the Cathedral are stunning, with some lovely artisan shops. Plenty of places to eat. The Cornhill quarter is being revamped and will be pleasant. The High Street into the City is rough and I wouldn't walk it after dark. The International Bomber Command Centre is stunning and a must for anyone interested in WW2 history or wishing to remember someone. The volunteers are very friendly and knowledgeable. In fact we met many helpful and informative people around the city.
In a great position in uphill Lincoln.
Easy to find with parking either on the street with hotel permits (only a few of these) or large pay car parks.
Bar and restaurant very nice and bar gets quite lively with a great friendly atmosphere.
Rooms are quite large and comfortable.
All staff are very friendly and efficient.
No food available at the hotel when I stayed on a Tuesday night but plenty of options nearby.
Breakfast was really good.
Very good enjoyable stay at a reasonable price.
For those who enjoy walking, excellent location, walkways to city centre well maintained. Hotel accommodation is separate from main building ensuring privacy. Rooms are spacious , well presented & all mod cons. The Hotel is picture perfect and staff more than helpful. Breakfast varied & plentiful, Full Breakfast was very tasty. Evening meals offered a good choice. We had Stilton Burger and Haddock, both were delicious. Definitely a place to stay if visiting Lincoln & surrounding area.
- The view from the room was fantastic and really worth the extra we paid
- The Location as perfect, right in the middle of the old part of Lincoln, near the cathedral, castle etc. We drove and the car park being so close was surprising and very useful. We did not need to walk more than 100 yards to all the events and sights we wanted.
- The staff were really friendly and very helpful
- Pretty hotel and the furnishings inside are very nice
The hotel is in a fantastic location for Lincoln city centre. Beautiful property. Rooms were clean and comfortable; fridge in the room with fresh milk and orange juice. Kettle and coffee maker. Fresh warm croissants delivered to the room in the morning. We paid for breakfast which is served at the local cafe - lovely food, service and ambience.
Would definitely stay here again.
I loved how cozy and clean the room was. It has even a small fridge in the room. I travel a lot and even some big hotels don't have that.
The location is perfect, very close to the city centre. I used to live in Lincoln and I didn't know this beautiful house before. I would recommend it 100% and I would stay there if I need a place to stay when I come back again.
The location was terrific. I was working at the cathedral which was just across the road. The room was big enough, comfortable with a desk to work at and plenty of sockets. Wi-Fi was good enough for me. The car park, just £7 for the whole stay, for a hotel in the city centre was amazing. Couldn’t fault the breakfast. Would stay again whenever I go to Lincoln.
Second time myself and wife have stayed at the tower hotel, such a nice place & reasonably priced, the location is perfect for the cathedral, lots of bars and restaurants nearby not that you need them as the hotel has a lovely bar and restaurant too.
Very comfortable and well proportioned rooms, great bar and food couldn't ask for more
A very pleasant hotel in a perfect location in the centre of Lincoln, right in the Castle & Cathedral area. Bedroom & bathroom both excellent. Very good breakfast. Very well managed hotel and owner was very helpful in providing a lockable area for our touring bikes. Will revisit this hotel when back in Lincoln.
Had the carvery at dinner food was good. All the staff who were in contact with were excellent, particularly the lady on reception (who seemed to be working the whole of our three day stay). SHE WAS A DEFINITE ASSET TO THE HOTEL. Also dining room staff /chef were very obliging and according to our request.
The Old Palace Lodge offers an excellent location close to the Lincoln Cathedral. It has private parking, a must if you are driving. The rooms are clean and well designed in a renovated church, quite appropriate when visiting the Lincoln Cathedral. The photos do not do the rooms justice.
The room was very spacious and comfortable. The location was excellent in order to visit the local attractions. We had a drink in the hotel bar which was very pleasant. The hotel was located with other eating and drinking facilities.
The hotel was in an excellent location with only a short walk into Lincoln city centre. The hotel was clean and was well run. The buffet breakfast was excellent. I can recommend staying here if you wish to visit Lincoln.
Fantastic central hotel in Lincoln with very friendly staff and comfortable rooms. An excellent continental breakfast is included too which sets you up for the day. Made Lincoln seem more inviting. Thank you.
