Welcoming, friendly, clean and comfortable room, in a good location central to everything in Shetland

I was in Lerwick during a stretch of unpleasant weather - cold and rainy with strong winds sometimes gusting at gale force. I would not recommend October or probably not winter. I will return, but next time in May or June! The city and surrounding towns are worth the visit. Next time I make the journey I will go to Kirkwall, too,

This is where you need to base if you want to explore the Shetland Islands. We found a great tour guide who took us all the way to the northern end of Unst and with his 40+ year history on the island was a wealth of information. Message me if you want his contact info.
We also did one of the wildlife boat tours which was great!

We very much enjoyed seabird watching tour departing from the small boat ferry port in Lerwick, which is really recommended! We brought a car rented at Aberdeen to Orkney/Shetland by ferries and it was nicely worked. Taking your own car is recommend as the great bird watching and archaeological sites are far away from Lerwick. Unfortunately the puffin season was over when we were in the Orkney/Shetland. I would like to visit again to see puffins!

Lerwick, well known to many people because of the TV series 'Shetland', is a charming town with many interesting features. Most importantly, the people are very friendly and welcoming to visitors, a good thing as during the summer months it is a regular stop off for cruise ships.
The town centre is tucked just behind the sea front and contains interesting local shops, cafes and restaurants. Our favourite was 'The Dowry', which has great food and excellent coffee. Visit Fort Charlotte, take a walk around the Nab for breathtaking views, catch a ferry across the sound to the island of Bressay, peruse the outstanding (and free) Shetland Museum or walk out of town to explore the ancient Broch of Clickimin. Of course, there is also a tour of the locations used to film 'Shetland'.

Lerwick is a great base for shorter excursions around the islands. We could have stayed longer for more hiking and half/full day visits. Shetland has a lot to offer. The nature is outstanding and people are very friendly.
We really enjoyed our tour with Lara Thomason who guided us around south Shetland and took us the the north west cliffs of Shetland. Very knowledgeable and pleasant to hang with. Next time it will be for hiking!

A lovely place with plenty to do.
A lovely place with plenty to do. Those of you who want to relax can enjoy the amazing scenery and wildlife from many locations around Lerwick and even when having a coffee or eating dinner at some of the locations.
nothing it’s a complete dump - arrived reception boarded up no staff - eventually another disgruntled guest gave me a mobile. number to get a member of staff over - eventually arrived - my room had been taken - showed me another and went to get towels and a room key and never returned - terrible and unbelievable price - this is not a hotel and should not be advertised as such it’s a rip off diss house for contract workers - who all hate the place - it’s a bad joke - shameful - I’m expecting a full refund but good luck with that
The hotel was neither far from the center of the town (about ten minutes walking distance) nor from the countryside (in less than five minute's drive could be out and away of town). Breakfast was abundant and more like a Scottish breakfast than a continental one. Could keep going till dinner time without a real need for a lunch break.
Personal service, very good brakfast and dinner (seafood), very nice and clean room, with a view. Excellent, quiet little hotel located near the ferry, only 7 minutes or so from Lerwick. Fantastic nature, bird life and hiking at Bressay. (No access to Noss due to bird flu, we recommend a boat trip from Lerwick instead)
Loved the view of the water from our room. Loved that we had a hidden opening to a second small room behind the bookcase. Loved the breakfast. Located a short walk from Commercial Street and the Harbor of Lerwick and as we were fortunate to have good weather (except for wind), enjoyed the walk.
The house had everything we needed - very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Is on the outskirts of Lerwick - about a 40 minute walk if you're that way inclined. Tesco supermarket not far away. Lovely views front & back. Always lovely and warm after a day exploring this beautiful & windy island.
Breakfast was exceptional. When they clean your room they give you it in an hamper so you have it for the next day. There was enough to snack on through the day too. Microwave, toaster, kettle and coffee machine all in room. Ideal location right in the heart of lerwick
The staff are all lovely, especially the breakfast service member of staff. The breakfasts were also excellent with plenty of choice and nice quality. Location and parking were also very good extremely near the centre of Lerwick. Glen Orchy was also acceptably clean.
The accommodation was spacious for a one bed apartment, very clean and well equipped. The bed was comfortable and a good shower. It was conveniently located, so everything in Lerwick was in walking distance. It was on a quiet street with ample parking.
The apartment was warm, clean and well equipped. It was also pretty central in Lerwick so we walked to most places we wanted to go to. There was supplies left in the kitchen which was nice too. We would rent again if available.
Location of guest house was perfect. You could walk everywhere in Lerwick wry no problem.
Did not like the buffet diy style breakfast basket. If we’d known this at time of booking we would not have chosen this guest house.
I had a very pleasant couple of days staying at Solheim. It is excellently located for the bus stop for exploring Mainland and the room I had was very comfortable. I would definitely stay here again if I was back in Lerwick.
Although the room was spotlessly clean, the hotel was EXTREMELY tired and most of the furniture, fixtures and fittings should have been replaced years ago.
