Mercure Paignton Hotel, hotel in Kingswear

Facing the beachfront, Mercure Paignton Hotel offers 4-star accommodation in Paignton and features a fitness centre, terrace and restaurant.

We stayed in the superior room. I would recommend this as spectacular view and uppermost comfort. The bed was extra large a had a perfect nights sleep. There was a little dust but otherwise very clean. Unfortunately, we also encountered dust on out last stay. This may however be due to the domestic staff not been given enough time turn around for each room. The fridge was fully stocked and although we requested our room not to be serviced we were able to obtain extra supplies from the helpful domestic staff.

The location is superb, a few hundred yards from Paignton seafront. The room was just right - slightly tired but ensuite was good. it was clean and had plenty of tea and coffee. Staff are incredibly helpful The bar area overlooks the front so you can sit with a drink and overlook the sea The hotel is a very short walk into town and 2 minutes walk to the front and beach Free parking was a bonus We didn't eat in the hotel (and other was no pressure to do so) It was planned as a short break and was ideal

Browns Hotel, hotel in Kingswear

Browns Hotel is a charming, independently run property located just 200 metres from the Dartmouth waterfront. Free WiFi is accessible throughout.

A good small hotel - good location and friendly staff. The breakfast was also good. Our room was clean, but could benefit from some deeper cleaning or replacements (shower curtain and bathroom blind were stained).

Kingswear was perfect for us, Waterview House was exactly right for us and very well equipped with everything needed, not much to do in Kingswere but plenty in Dartmouth opposite just across the river which is a short ferry ride away.

The main point for us was closeness to Dartmouth by ferry. In other words, enjoy Dartmouth but live elsewhere, with a lovely connection between the two by boat. The steam train was also lovely. but the destination (Paignton) awful. Lovely views of the marina and the multitude of ships' masts. The weather was pretty appalling for the three days we were there, which may colour our reflections!

We stayed on the Dartmouth side of the river.

We stayed on the Dartmouth side of the river. The views were spectacular across the river Dart and also out to sea. I hadn;t realised that this port was so steeped in history. some of the tudor buildings were very colourful with family crests painted on in bright colours. we also did a river cruise which is well worth it and saw Agatha Christie's house. we also took the car and foot ferry across to Kingswear and took a ride on the old steam train to Paignton. on one day I took time to walk into Dartmouth and had a good look round. i found a lovely coffee shop tucked away off the main roads, I also went to the craft market. Lots of galleries and souvenier shops. We visited the seven stars being oldest pub and the cherub which is the oldest building. Food is good too we ate at the Royal Castle Hotel. You have to be quick to book as everything was full. well worth going and i will be back asap.

The marina and path walks around the estuary are very good.

The marina and path walks around the estuary are very good. Two easily available ferry's to access Dartmouth. Yaught club facilities available for a reasonable yearly fee. Two pubs for take away food and drink. Due to pandemic a few places unfortunately closed such as local shop. Coffer shop and wine bar. Train station for the steam enthusiast's.

Please advise of steep staircase and the no parking you have to pay for additional parking and unload your car on hazard lights ... pubs are great the steam packet in and location for view and ferry to Dartmouth or steam train or days out locally good location.. newly renovated front porch for amazing views appreciated... living room and bathroom very dated needs a spring clean and modernisation would be perfect.. the steps!!! Are a big no no for me to visit again

The steam train journey to Paignton was a glimpse into the past for us viewing the Goodrington campsite we stayed in on theclifftop(no allowed now mind you it was nearly 40 years ago The various ferry’s make it easy to get across to Dartmouth best tackled on foot a pleasant stroll and a good value boat trip up the river for an hour cost £7.50 concession
