Location, the building itself and the room were up to scratch. I can't fault the level of comfort that the rooms offer, quiet, enough space without being especially spacious and a perfect location on the main road but far enough away to avoid traffic noise. Parking was very convenient. We didn't partake in breakfast or an evening meal.

Room was reasonable size and bathroom had a bath which is a plus. Decent towels and some toiletries provided. The continental breakfast left in room was a croissant, yoghurts, orange juice, two types of cereal, jam and butter, oranges and a jug of milk so could make proper tea! Biscoff biscuits also provided. Pub was very welcoming both from staff and customers. Local beers on which were well kept. We didn't eat as not hungry but saw the food which looked and smelt delicious with generous portions. We were there as a night between a trip to Newbury races and before a stable visit in Lambourn and it was ideally placed for both. Price was very good value.
Situated in the picturesque village of Inkpen, the Crown and Garter is a traditional English pub with stylish rooms, a restaurant and bakery. It opens onto a lovely garden.

This time my visit was just a quick stop over at the Bear Hotel to break up my journey back to Kent, so I didn't visit anything else in Hungerford. However, next time I come I'll be staying at Littlecote House and popping in to Hungerford for a look around. I especially like the waterways.

Hungerford is a typical English market town and has a very attractive centre with many 18th century buildings. It is also a well-known centre for antiques, interior decorating and decorative garden features. There is also a farmers’ market on Wednesdays.

Great for looking at antiques if thats what you like, not much in the way of conventional shopping, although some nice places to eat, we went in November so probably better in warmer season when there are river cruises to enjoy.

Town seems to have buried the shooting incident in the 80's and memorial (?) is hard to find. Doesn't honour memory of victims well does it? Town now a little seedy and down at heel. Canal walk path could be improved . Several seedy-looking canal boats tied up . Not many good places to eat out. The usual Costa and Coffee No 1 in the high street. Not enough good cafes and eateries. Location is SUPERB re being centre of England and has train to London. Underwhelmed by the town itself though some nice buildings. Stayed at 3 Swans hotel which overrates itself. Needs to improve comfort and strength of bed and functionality of shower.

Very good location just off the M4 so easy to get to some fabulous places in the local area. Salisbury, Bath, Oxford, The Cotswolds are a short drive away and Hungerford is a lovely town to spend a few hours browsing in the market and antique shops. Also nice walks on the canal.
The service we got from the staff on the ground was exceptional.
In particular Michelle. For example she remembered that I was GF and Lactose Intolerant from an earlier enquiry and made sure that I was provided with the correct menu etc.
Super friendly and nothing too much trouble.
The breakfast waitress was also exceptional in her professionalism and service despite the fact she was left coping with 21 covers whilst the duty manager was notably absent apart from arranging some flowers nearby on a few tables.
The location on a working horse farm was visually beautiful and peaceful. The close proximity to the other houses on the farm was not an issue. Being able to walk the property and be a short drive from the town of Hungerford was ideal. It's centrally located for access to a number of places worth visiting. The house is large and comfortable generally with a boot room, utility room, large kitchen with a new fridge (no ice maker or trays through so cocktail makers plan ahead), and separate TV/lounge area.
The staff stood out as being very friendly and accommodating. From check-in, to dinner on the patio, to the help our server gave us after breakfast in understanding how roundabouts work. (We're US drivers and we must have talked about this for 15 minutes with her.) The other thing that stood out is just how "out of the way" it is--it's a super quiet setting, and just a stone's throw from Hungerford if you want a town.
Location - in a private estate away from the main roads, very quiet and secluded.
Space - 3 couples had ample of space throughout the cottage.
Open kitchen and dining area great for a get together and separate living area with sofas.
Very comfortable beds and showers were great.
Walk down to the canal into Hungerford - loads of different routes to walk in the area.
This was our 3rd Stay at the Bear, and we would stay again. All the key things you need are here. Staff are very friendly & helpful. The room was comfortable and nicely decorated. It had all we needed for a 2 night stay. The bears location in Hungerford, is ideal for exploring the town and the area. Food is your normal Greene King fayre, but good enough.
Staff were wonderful. So helpful regardless of the hour.
Reception went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable. Breakfast team were great. All-in-all great hotel and I would recommend the Bear Hotel to anyone wishing to visit Hungerford and the surrounding area.
Food was amazing and the menu varied. The bed was super comfortable and the tv & wifi actually worked which is often a problem in hotels. It was also a really quiet location. The water pressure was also excellent for the shower.
Delightful rural location within Hungerford Park Estate, surrounded by trees, wildflowers and fields. We could hear birdsong and no traffic noise. We saw wild hares and deer roaming. A real treat to escape the city.
Food was excellent throughout our stay, the rooms very very comfortable and clean, the shower was superb, the staff were always helpful and there was a large car park. Best pub hotel I have stayed in - recommended!
Nice clean room, bed comfortable, breakfast really good, parking right behind the hotel on a car park.
No sure if we got lucky, but we did not heard any noises from restaurants by the hotel .
Was really happy with the food at the pub, really delicious and so much better than the usual pub food you can find in the area! The bed was also very conformable.
