Oakhill is a beautiful Grade 2 Listed (Georgian style) house built by the Arkwright family in the mid 19th century, as a private family dwelling. The hotel is located in the stunning Derbyshire countryside, set in extensive landscaped gardens within the historic village of Cromford, in the UNESCO Derwent Valley World Heritage Site. It was perfect - location, the gardens, the food and the staff. Really lovely hotel.

Really nice, clean, comfortable room with lovely little touches. We were well informed on the check-in process. Breakfast was absolutely delicious.Thank you for the snacks and mince pies!

Staff were super friendly and there were wonderful personal touches such as homemade cake and macaroons left in our room and a glass of fizz at cocktail hour. We have already booked the same room again for when we are next in Sheffield.

The property features lovely greenery, as well its own cave and patio area. Interiors feature wooden beams, original fireplaces and embossed wallpaper. The spacious rooms have elegant design and come with free WiFi, heating and a private bathroom. Some rooms look onto the nearby River Derwent. Very clean and comfortable room and bed, excellent food, lovely people.

All rooms have a flat screen TV, fridge and tea and coffee facilities. Most rooms have an en suite shower, while 2 rooms share a luxury bathroom. There is an extra private bathroom including a bath available to all guests. Two of the rooms are pet-friendly. Warm friendly welcoming. Breakfast was amazing so many different choices. Delicious cakes to help yourself to when arriving back after a long walk. Beautiful accommodation, warm, cosy and very clean.

Ellen House has a lot to offer - very friendly and knowledgeable hosts, spotlessly clean rooms and common areas, parking (which is very hard to find in Matlock), a very convenient location - a short walk from everything and generally just a lovely place to stay. The breakfast was freshly prepared to order and delicious. Homemade preserves with breakfast were a special treat as were the home made flapjacks (YUM) in our room each day. Ellen House is also very close to the train station if that is how you travel.

Spotlessly clean and run by a charming host. If you are looking for the Ritz Carlton, go elsewhere. But if you are in the mood for something different in a great location with all needs met, give this houseboat a try! There’s an easy to understand guide to the facilities on the boat. Included parking is right at the boat and directions to access are complete and simple. Nearby pubs and cafes. If you go, and you see owner Mark around the boats in the morning, talk to him! He is friendly with loads of stories and information and can tell you all about the boats. Our first visit to Sheffield, an interesting city with lots of history and many restaurants, pubs and historical sights. We hope to be back!

Rooms include a private bathroom fitted with a shower over a bath. For your comfort, you will find free toiletries and a hair dryer. Breakfast was great. It included a lot of choices from toast and cereal to cooked bacon and eggs. The room was clean and well appointed. Larger than others we stayed in. The bath room was very clean and towels were thick and seemed like new. Plenty of bed covers for slightly chilly weather.
