The air-conditioned accommodation is 3.5 km from Hida Minzoku Mura Folk Village. The property is less than 1 km from the city centre and a 17-minute walk from Takayama Station. Soramachi was a very comfortable house with good facilities. Probably the most spacious and nicest accomodation we experienced in our travels through Japan. Only stayed 2 nights but it provided a relaxing and quiet break from the crowds elsewhere. The house is right on the river and close to a tranquil temple walk and public bathhouse . It is an easy walk from there to the old quarter and we walked to the house with luggage from the station ( 1.4 km). The owners are obviously very house proud and welcoming. Highly recommend this accomodation.

Takayama City, Takayama
Popular points of interest near the villa include Yoshijima Heritage House, Sakurayama Hachiman Shrine and Takayama Festival Float Exhibition Hall. The nearest airport is Toyama Airport, 83 km from TANIYA. The building itself, as you can see from the pictures, is exquisite. If you are a fan of architecture or traditional craftsmanship, you will delight at just BEING in Taniya. This was almost a problem—I'm used to thinking of a hotel as a "crash pad" while exploring, and instead I wanted to spend hours and hours inside! Each morning was calm and peaceful: make a cup of green tea, then observe the way the light plays through the washi, the sound of water rushing by. I also particularly loved the bath; one of my favorite memories was enjoying it on a rainy, chilly night. We got home from dinner, I used the auto-fill function while I got ready for bed, then opened the window onto the courtyard and stepped in. Watching the moon through the rain, maple leaves, and steam curling up from the bath... it's like having your own personal onsen. Plus, each item in the villa was thoughtfully chosen, from the local sakes on offer in the fridge to the items provided in the bathroom to the super-soft pajamas. Even better were our hosts, who exemplified the Japanese concept of "omotenashi" (essentially, "hospitality" taken to its highest level). Well before arrival we were working with the Taniya concierge to make our plans happen (many thanks to Mahiro!). She handled making reservations at our desired restaurants and travel around town was provided as needed. Where she truly excelled was helping us troubleshoot our more ambitious ideas, such as: is there an open-air onsen near the Shinhotaka Ropeway with private baths? And how do we get there and back? The Kusakabe family were also gracious and friendly hosts, helping us along with the concierge and sharing their knowledge of Japan and Takayama plus their personal history—talking with them and touring the Folk Crafts Museum was a particular highlight, as many of the items on display are Kusakabe family heirlooms.
Hida Takayama Onsen, Takayama
The villa features 2 bedrooms, a flat-screen TV, a fully equipped kitchenette with a microwave and a fridge, a washing machine, and 1 bathroom with a hot tub. This villa also provides guests with a patio that doubles up as an outdoor dining area. The property offers inner courtyard views. There was a sudden heavy snow and our car was stuck in the snow. Our arrival time turned out to be almost 12am, we have messaged and informed the host, she was really kind, she stayed up and waited for us. She helped us to call the car rental service to make alternate arrangements and suggested safer routes for us to go Shirakawago the next day and route to return to Tokyo. House was spacious and clean, especially recommend for families.

Very cozy
We loved Wanosato. It is well worth planning your trip to stay at this cozy traditional ryokan with onsen outside of Takayama. The food was delicious. The spa was exceptional. We stayed in a villa that had huge windows looking onto the river. Extremely romantic! My favorite part of our trip to Japan.
Cosy and homely feel on the 1st floor. Having Netflix access was a big plus.
Stunning design. Perfectly thought out amenities. Divine breakfasts. Charming staff so even though they arent on site, we felt totally supported.
5-10min walk from Takayama Station. Clean & cozy! Small outdoor area for your kid to play while you are having a cup of coffee inside. Yutaka/pajamas & daily breakfast bento provided.
It's a fe minutes walks to world-renowned Shirikawago. Imagine beating all tourists by staying there. Also it has a cozy cabin vibe.
Overall, really good value for money. It is a really cozy and traditional place at a very good spot in Takayama. The staff was extremely friendly and helped me with everything I needed. I came off-season and it was really quite in the house. I will definitely return here in the near future!
My recent stay at CURIO Shirakawago was a serene escape into tranquility. The charming hotel, nestled in the heart of picturesque Shirakawago, surpassed expectations. The two complimentary biscuits in the room were a delightful surprise, offering a warm welcome.
The location is great, not far from the cente and remote from the traffic, just on the way to the Folklore village. The staff is nice and discreet. The place is peaceful and beautiful, very cosy and clean. Typical old Japenese house, nice to stay after a long day. The mattress is heating, for winter , it's really nice. The staff make sure that every room is warm when you get in.
The room is big, clean and cozy, just like a small apartment, where I could do laundry and simple cooking during my stays. The hotel is just within 5 mins walking distance to nohi bus terminal and train station, there are restaurants, shops, supermarket and Macdonald nearby. By getting access voucher from the staff at front desk, I also used the public onsen for free at Wat Hotel and Spa. It’s worth for try (although it took about 10 mins to walk over) as it has sauna, indoor and outdoor bath.
