I had booked this place because we were going to do an activity in the area, it was canceled on that day but I kept this booking even though it can be a little difficult to get to (I would recommend taking a taxi from the train station, bus service is highly irregular).It seemed like it would be a good experience (staying at a Traditional Japanese house in the country). I was right. Kenji is an excellent and helpful host. Our room was one of the most beautiful we stayed in, lots of detail: carvings , kami dana, beams etc. The beds=futons were warm and comfortable. It was quiet and you could see stars at night. You are near the river and can see/ cross one of the famous bridges. This is rural Japan and I loved it.

Amazing rooms, great kitchen for cooking. The bedroom was traditional and the futon was the most comfortable one I've slept on during my entire stay in Japan! Loved the bath and being able to use the washing machine. The staff/family were an absolutel joy to meet, and so friendly and accommodating. If I ever return to shimanto I'd love to stay again with friends!
