I chanced upon Kumihama and the Waterside Cottage Heron, as it wasn't in my destination initially and it's not in the usual list of sights to visit. It's a little town by the Bay of Kumihama - deserted (compared to other places I've been), quiet & simple. Yet, I must say that I enjoyed my time the most here! Etsuko-san made me feel so welcome and at ease during my stay here. The room and premise beside the water canal were so serene, peaceful and therapeutic. She cooked dinner and breakfast for me - with impeccable service and taste, and deep thoughtfulness; she handwrote the meal courses in English for me and kindly introduced each dish for me. I really look forward to each meal time and enjoyed the casual conversations! The next day, she recommended me to use the in-house bicycle (battery powered) to cycle round the Bay - it was such a breeze cycling and pleasure exploring the Bay and also stopping by the Jersey Farmhouse for a nice ice-cream! Oh, and her dog, Leo, was so friendly and he gave me a lick before I checkout. Thank you so much, Etsuko-san for making me feel so at home. I'm truly glad that I made it here and I hope to visit again.

It was a cosy 2 storey house on a hill and we thoroughly enjoyed the sea view. It was spectacular. Bedding was the tatami type, which the kids enjoyed. As we drove, parking and distance of this house to various amenities was not an issue. supermarket was a 3-5 min drive away. Instructions given by the host on bed setup, etc was adequately clear. We had difficulty locating the key even though the passcode was correct, because we didn't realise that the keypad could be lifted up to reveal the key to the door. We were looking for a key box near the keypad without realising this initially. Would suggest to the host to add more instructions on this in the checking in instructions. Overall, it was a great stay and i would love to stay here again!

・海の前というロケーションが最高だったこと。 ・非対面でもチェックイン・アウトなどがわかりやすいシステムになっていたこと。 ・滞在中の質問も電話すれば適切に答えていただけること。 ・近くにコンビニやスーパーがないことを見越して、非常食が常備されていたこと。 ・近所に住む方々が気さくに挨拶してくれて、とても好意的だったこと。 などなど。

A great change from staying in hotels. Really feel like you are living in a traditional Japanese village. The bath was absolutely amazing and saved our life as it was very cold weather when we came.
