When given a chance come to Trinidad lake State Park. Beautiful lake, nice camping areas, and often you'll be the only one there. Trinidad is a very interesting town with nice people and you can always find something to do.

My wife and I were traveling from Dallas to Grand Junction.
My wife and I were traveling from Dallas to Grand Junction. Trinidad and Amarillo are the half-way points for us on these trips, so instead of driving the extra 4 hours to get to Amarillo, we booked a room at this La Quinta just outside of Trinidad. It was the best decision I have made on a trip! Booking.com made it real easy to choose and I think this review will help you make that good decision too! We were just passing through Trinidad. We lucked out by driving up to this hotel with no reservation. It was a very cozy, exceptionally clean and very stylish for a low price. We drive a large rig but parking wasn’t a problem. There was a Walmart next door which was very convenient!AAnonymous - 10Scored 10

There are some really fantastic sites around here, with the San Luis Valley just over the mountain... Hwy 12 up through the mountains to Cuchara and La Veta provides an wide range of scenery, rock formations and climbing mountains... little communities interspersed along the route... and out of there further west is the Great Sand Dunes, a spectacular site!!! Unaccustomed to have breakfast without possibility to choose and pick the food from tray by your own. As we were not so familiar with the food and naming in US, we just made a blind random choice. But Patricia was terrific in recommending Tom for transportation to Amtrak stop as well as our main destination: Colorado Springs. the Sonic next door is great, and also walking to downtown Main Street is easy. Trinidad is a cute town!
