We have been to the Walkway on the Hudson before (it's tremendous), but we did not visit the city. We made the mistake of doing that this time. Seemingly all of the people we passed were not doing well. They looked like they had issues. When you look at the promo for the city, it looks quaint and with a positive vibe. There are many places listed such as Grand Hotel, Poughkeepsie Grind, etc... but if you walk to get to them, you are going to encounter people that you might want to have your guard up on. They sure brought me down. I was thinking, "I'm on vacation". This is a drag. I could see this at home (Philadelphia). Maybe this town is on the rise, but it hasn't risen high enough for a visit as of yet. BTW, we drove 30 miles from the hotel to get. We went to New Paltz and went to Huckleberry's. It was great.

If you ever get to Poughkeepsie, be sure to go on the walking bridge across the Hudson. It is worth getting TO Poughkeepsie to enjoy. What a great town. (I was there to see Marist and Vassar Colleges, both of which are worth visiting to see.) Best restaurant? "The Academy." Do not miss it.

Check first to see if Culinary Institute of America (CIA) has restaurants that are open. They are closed for summer break, and may be closed for portions of the Christmas break (corresponds to the student year)
FDR house and Vanderbilt house are both National Parks properties, so if you have a Park Pass, there is no charge. Otherwise, the house tours are $10 per person--so worth it. To walk the properties is free--you will see walkers with their leashed dogs.
walkway across the Hudson is excellent for a walk/run/bike. Great views! Bring your water bottle.

The Poughkeepsie Grind is the absolute best coffee shop to go to. All train stations are pretty convenient to get to and there’s so many restaurants that are amazing to try, I haven’t found a place I didn’t like.

We were there for my daughter’s wedding at the Grandview!
We were there for my daughter’s wedding at the Grandview! What an excellent venue! All of our family came in and the Hotel was perfect for everyone! The outside area became our favorite place to hang out after dinner at The CIA, after our rehearsal dinner at the Mill House Brewery and even after the wedding! The staff was superb and the hotel was so amazing that we extended our stay! We just weren’t ready to say goodbye on Sunday morning! You cannot go wrong with choosing Homewood! They WILL EXCEDE YOUR EXPECTATIONS!

I love Poughkeepsie the place were vary quiet.
I love Poughkeepsie the place were vary quiet. I love the shopping mall in Poughkeepsie . my trip were too short next time i would stay for two weeks. getting around were easy with Lyft and Uber . but next time i would take my change to rent a vehicle.
We were going to see Jo Koy right there in the County Center next door and decided on the location out of sheer convenience. To our surprise, it was absolutely lovely! The staff are amazing and hospitable. The room was SPOTLESS clean. The sheets smelled fresh and amazing. The bed was comfortable. Even the breakfast was adorable (typical hotel stuff although I would suggest putting a toaster out to toast the bagels). I wish there were more things to do in Poughkeepsie - because I would go back!
The Hyatt was a clean, modern, and comfortable facility. I really enjoy it when a hotel does a good breakfast that's included in the room charge, and theirs was great. But the icing on the cake for me at this place was their indoor pool. The whole thing sparkled, literally, because it was so clean and bright. The pool was larger than normal for an indoor hotel pool, and it was just so much nicer than many hotel pools I've swum in.
Apartment-sized space and amenities for less than hotel pricing. Location was good for my project. With the cleaning fee, it is best for a stay of a few days or more. Easy key-pad access. Kitchen had staples (cooking oil, salt/pepper, seasonings, coffee/tea), and supplies (pots/pans, dinnerware, utensils, can opener, etc.). Lots of food options and shopping just a few minutes away by car. The neighborhood was quiet.
they offered us breakfast tickets and it looked good, but we had other breakfast obligations. did grab a coffee and appreciated that. even with fully booked hotel, our rooms were cleaned after first night, without our asking, plenty of parking.
one night the power went out, many people came to lobby, then it was almost magical. drinks, birthdays, a kind of subdued party. power came back on in a few hours.
We liked the general design of the hotel. It was attractive. It was located off of a main street. It had water flowing behind the hotel. We ate our breakfast outside by this little body of water. The gentleman who checked us in was very helpful and a super nice guy.
Location and hot breakfast. Room was clean. Nice that the room faced the mountains and could see a bit of the river and bridges. Quaint little town. Probably the best hotel in downtown Poughkeepsie.
New modern hotel, good location, quiet. Very large room/suite with full kitchen and fridge. Excellent water pressure in shower. Staff extremely kind and attentive. Good breakfast.
The hotel was nice and very clean. The people at the desk and who work there were very courteous. I have nothing bad to say about the hotel and the people
