Selfservice breakfast was very good; free usage of the kitchen and the meal area a plus; beautiful location although a bit remote. An extra bed for the kid without even asking for it was a nice gesture. The guesthouse itself was amazingly refurbished recently. And the host is great!

Monção is veyr pretty, with some cool thermal spas, and outdoors hot spring pools on the other side of the river. Worth a walk around the walls, that curious Portuguese combination of fabulous ancient luxury and abandoned buildings, side by side with modernist architecture and comfy parks and squares. It's faded but still glamorous and had a certain old work style about it, i enjoyed walking the walls, the flowering spring trees, the river walk, the thermal spa, a municipal service which was relaxing and fun, and good value for the time you get there, time your visit to the spa with Sunset if you can, the huge glass building ti's in, gets flooded with light, sparkling off the bubbling hot waters, the water are treated so not sulphurous smell, but this makes it more clinical an experience. Relaxing nonetheless after a long days walking and exploring this ancient citadel town. Swimming in history and charm, but for some reason the restaurants charme more than anywhere else i've been in Portugal, ,other than Lisbon, not sure what's going on there as the quality of the food isn't any different. Portuguese food is superb wherever you may eat and Monceau is no different to that, lots of local produce to eat, friendly hosts and a low key bar scene. It's a unusual place to spend a few days and a good first stop if you're interested in the hot springs of this area, of which there are many, of different types. Town is walkable, we parked outside the walls and left the car, little flat space , but the hills are easy, the views out across the river and mountain and beautiful.
Excellent hosts! They made our family feel like home and really went the extra mile. They made us eggs upon request (we are American and love eggs in the morning!), as well as went and purchased a baby bath for our little one!
Additionally, they were very knowledgeable about Moncao, northern Portugal and close by Spain as well. They provided vegetarian restaraunt recommendations, local authors and poets, and top attractions to go visit!
Rooms were very clean and overall the house is beautiful with gorgeous views!
We had a lovely stay. The whole hotel was very clean, including the rooms and the beds were very comfortable. Breakfast was good with fruit, cereals, toasts and some sweets from the region. The staff working there were absolutely caring and helpful, providing everything we needed for a wonderful stay. Even the last day that we had to leave early, Paola went out of her way to leave some fresh pastries from the village ready for us to have as breakfast. Thank you for everything, we very much enjoyed our time there.
Sound of birds and fountains. Views of garden and vineyards. Scent of orange trees. Welcoming staff. Sitting in cool of eveni g witha glass of estate wine. House is exceptional better than any hotel. I went to the thermal spa, so enjoyed town within fortress of Moncao. Cycled on ecopista both sides of river. SOLAR de SErrada is out of town but taxis available.
breakfast very generous. I loved the jug of coffee so that I could pour my own preference.
Clean, quite and attentive staff. Good choice of food and a healthy cheap menu everyday. Simple but good breakfast. Access to spa, that is 5 mins from hotel. I had a lovely view on the garden. They have upgraded the entry with nice green colours. Outside seating available as well. Nice hotel for solo and family travellers. Near Vigo airport or you can get a taxi to Oporto. A lot of sightseeing and the Alvarinho museum
Casa 42 is located in the historic centre of Monção. The concierge / owner is very friendly and attentive. Casa 42 provides clean and functional accommodation for a very fair price. Our room was very quiet, beds were cozy, shower with excellent water pressure. Highly recommended if you want to experience this vibrant and charming border town at the river Minho.
Very close to historical center, restaurants, banks, etc. Excellent price, clean, and comfortable. Parking on street but next to hotel.
The young woman receptionist was very helpful and friendly. (Don't expect great comprehension of English anywhere in Monção that I encountered. Fortunately I am reasonably conversant in Portuguese and people were kind.)
the hotel is in a converted mansion right on the edge of the old town and has parking. the common spaces and there are several are interestingly decorated. the staff has limited to no English (Monaco is not a tourist town) but you can get by. the restaurant has good food and service if you don’t feel like going out.all in all a good choice for Monaco
The breakfast was fantastic. The Solar is beautiful, in the middle of a truly beautiful working vineyard. The staff were very welcoming and accommodating. They anticipated our needs in thoughtful ways. They gave us a delightful tour of the winery when we asked. It was a convenient base for us to visit Moncao, Valenca and Tui.
Excellent hotel, vert nice stuff. They went above and beyond to make sure we are happy and all our needs are met.
Excellent location. We did not use the car so much, many places are in walking distance.
We really enjoyed the jacuzzi in the room
We paid extra for the room but ut was worth it!
Charming guesthouse in an excellent location on a square close to the scenic boardwalk along the Minho River (Passadiços da Fortaleza de Monção) and steps away from the Alvarinho wine museum. Lovely views from my room. Cafes nearby.
We stayed for one night and we absolutely loved our stay in the hotel. The owner/manager was absolutely adorable. She kindly left our with little gift. I highly recommend the place and definitely consider staying there again
All the staff were wonderfully accommodating, not because they had to be, but due to their gracious and kind characters. We stayed 5 nights, extending from a planned 3, because the hotel and Moncao were so charming.
We appreciated the friendly and efficient staff. The location of this hotel, within easy walking distance of the centre of town, is perfect. The breakfasts are exceptional.Plenty of variety and fresh produce.
Beautiful hotel. The decorations in the hotel, the fountain, the rooms, the restaurant, all excellent . Very friendly staff. This was our second time in this hotel. We'll be back
