A Faded Jewel in need of refreshment BUT you can't take away from the beach and its amenities. Signs of new cafes and restaurants starting up, but the impression is the crowds come from the city anyway so why make a huge effort :-) There is no real centre as we could see, just a linear settlement unlike villages up the Marginal or further in towards Lisbon.EugeneIreland - 6.0Scored 6.0
Parts of Carcavelos away from the train line are actually...
Parts of Carcavelos away from the train line are actually quite nice. It's quite a sleepy little town outside of summer. The main beach is really for surfing not swimming. We were there in September and the water was already too cold. There are some nicer beaches to swim at close by but not really serviced by pubic transport. It doesn't really have a great number of good restaurants and feels a little bit like a town than the locals commute into the city from. Probably more of a day trip from Lisbon as opposed to somewhere to base yourself for a large amount of time unless you intend to surf.

A very well situated town for the ones who want to visit Lisbon and other tourist attractions. A very good and cheap public transport. Very clean, wide and safe beaches. Possibility to walk along the coastline. Numerous shops and restaurants. Helpful natives. Clean air.

It's a 5 minute walk to Carcavelos Beach in one direction and a 5 minute walk to the train station in the other. Lisbon is an easy 35 minute train ride. We had a great time at the Yucca House. The back yard and swimming pool are TOP! Thank you so much to Jose and Rita! They were perfect host and available 24/7. I highly recommend staying at the Yucca House. Ryan

Owners were always willing to advise us with practical information (train, bus...). There was a small issue regarding last day stay, however, owner managed it great and was very helpful.
