Well, the review left gave me wrong impression. It is quite reasonable by the price.

This is a very nice boutique hotel in the centre of the town. The hotel is linked to a bar and restaurant close by, so all your needs are well catered for. The quality and sensitivity of the refurbishment of this character building is very high.

This town is a car crash! - despite Unesco city of creativity.
1-2 hours plenty to look around the last remaining intact bits of town, apart from visiting on a Thursday when supposedly there is a market going on.
So many other places to see in the area!
Why waste your time?

The city is beautiful and with a lot of monuments and churches to visit. It also had some pretty interesting shops in a central shopping area and some interesting looking restaurants. From traditional to hipster food- you can find everything there. The day I visited, the city had a huge market in the center, street food and entertainment. There were some traditional music concerts, traditional dancing, flower and light decorations all over... Very pretty. I was positively surprised by the mixture of historical and city-like vibes.

Barcelos is an attractive market town, worth a visit in its own right. We visited to see the famous Thursday morning market but were a little disappointed. As veterans of many markets around the world, this was large and certainly worth seeing for the wide range of delicious local produce, including ducklings and other young fowls for sale and traditional gardening and tilling instruments plus locally made diy materials. There was modern furniture too. However, we found the pottery and earthenware a little disappointing, stall after stall of basic chunky red clay pots, but few quality or hand painted items. Also few traditional cotton items for which Portugal is so renowned - towels, bedspreads, curtains, tablecloths. We could happily have spent more time exploring Barcelos itself but had only allowed time for the market, before the short drive to Porto.

Barcelos is a sleepy, medieval town where we stayed for 4 nights in total. The town has several nice bars and restaurants with numerous medieval buildings if you're after some history.
The one downside being we struggled to get Ubers out of the town and down to Porto and Braga.
Great location. Just right on the camino, and we got a corner room facing the river and the castle of Barcelos. Many good restaurants close to the hotel. In particular, Joan was very helpful and quickly response to issues we have. It just happened, we did not find our transferred luggage when we arrived at the hotel. And on the day there is no reception staff. Joan responded very quickly on this issue, finding that our luggage was misplaced into another guest room by the housekeeper. She managed to solve the issue quickly.
The property was exactly like in the pictures and it was really clean and packed with loads of details.
The hosts went the extra mile allowing us to check out later. They were replying to messages really quick and were understanding when we provoked a small issue with one chair in the living room.
Barcelos is a very nice town very convenient to visit Braga, Guimaraes and Porto. It's full of places to eat and have drinks and do some nice sightseeing too
I would recommend this property 100%
This was such a lovely place, exceptional quality in every respect—from beautiful renovation within traditional stone walls, to the aesthetic design and details of tile and wood, to the cozy warmth of the soft and comfortable bedding. The hosts were very kind people—who brought us delicious breakfast in a picnic basket each morning! We loved staying so close to Barcelos, but in this little slice of rural paradise. Highly recommended!
Amazing family-run country estate surrounded by nature, green hills and lemon groves. The staff was extremely caring and accommodating (Phillipa, we already miss you!), facilities and location are excellent, a nice breakfast. A perfect spot for a relaxing vacation with tons of options for exciting day-trips all around the wonderful Northern Portugal. We hope to be back next year!
A superb option for a brief stay in Barcelos. Just outside the train station, which makes it convenient for anyone with an early train to catch, but it does make it a little noisy. You can hear the announcements of trains arriving, very clearly. But fortunately they stop at 10 or 11 at night, so it is possible to get a good night's sleep. Very clean and helpful staff.
We loved the location of the guest house, it was super central in Barcelos, a 2 minute walk from cafes, shops, restaurants and all the sites to see. The room itself was extremely clean and cosy, we really appreciated the air conditioning during the heat! The kitchenette was very well equipped and great for a short stay.
Sandra coordinated with us to hand off the key on our arrival. She has curated the art in the apartment with a great sense of color, from her own bold art to folk art. She left us an excellent array of bread and treats for breakfast. And she provided lots of information about Barcelos. This place is a unique gem!
Helpful guy at the reception, nice room all the amenities and the good thing about Portugal is some news channels are in English.
Picture is of the room I had, 2 other travellers paid more for an albergue. Places like this are a godsend and nice to pick up a few sweets on the way out.
Close to the centre of town, and located near restaurants. Room was big enough to include a tiny desk with the only chair in the room. Largest shower I have experienced so far in Portugal. Breakfast in the main hotel was lovely.Very pleasant hotel staff both at checkin and breakfast.
On the Camino! Literally right in it. We were so tired after 18 miles we showered and stayed in on a rainy night. However , Barcelos is charming and I wish we’d have the energy to enjoy! Breakfast was amazing. I would absolutely stay there again
Location was great and the hotel also had a restaurant where we purchased a good meal. Service was great and a bonus to have breakfast included with our stay. When we went out for a walk in the rain, we were lent an umbrella.
Loved this modern hotel in a very old building. Room was spacious, bed was comfy and bathroom was great. The hotel bar served delicious food & drinks. It was the perfect way to end my day after hiking Camino.
Easy-going and comfortable stay in the beautiful old centre of Barcelos. Friendly, welcoming and attentive staff. Lovely breakfast. Great stay for anyone passing through on foot on the Caminho Português.
