I just love the relaxed surroundings of Te Anau, it's one of my favorites destinations for a few'nights-getaway..there is lots to do and if you're adventurous you can do even more! Amazing nature, the lake is just stunning, township is not too big but has all you could want/need. Brilliant food places...love The Ranche and the Moose. Redcliff restaurant and bar is a unexpected find, quaint and quirky but great food and staff. Overall, Te Anau is a beautiful destination if you're looking for somewhere not too touristy (at least, it doesn't feel that way)

This is a nice location which has everything.
This is a nice location which has everything. The town centre has everything that you would need. Friendly people in shops and businesses. Great range of different restaurants. Excellent tourist attractions. Very convenient to Milford Sound - 2 hours through stunning countryside. A lot better to travel from Te Anau to Milford Sound or Doubtful Sound than to come from Queenstown - 4 hours travel
The best place we found to eat and just chill at was Red Cliff Bar and Restaurant - friendly staff, exceptional food and first rate service.
A couple of must do's are: Wings and Water (float plane) with Ivan and Cruise Te Anau with Peter. Both locals, highly entertaining and knowledgeable.

This is a great, very small town that makes a great stay to see the Fiordlands. Stay at a location with a view of the lake. Activities from here are a great choice. The lake and mountains are beautiful and eat at the Ranch, best place we ate on both islands.

We stayed a bit longer in Te Anau to do a bit of hiking.
We stayed a bit longer in Te Anau to do a bit of hiking. It's a small town, so easy to get to know quickly. The nicer restaurants need a reservation, and it seemed when we went that quite a few restaurants were short-staffed. If dining is important to you, check out where you want to eat a few days beforehand.
from the get go, the lady that received us was wonderful. her service was superb, the facilities including the hot tub were lovely. The English breakfast (i am a pom and judge well i think) was absolutely superb with perfect poached eggs and just the right amount of toast, bacon, etc. Little extras like shortbread really made our stay special and we shall return to this place every single time we visit Te Anau. Why would we go anywhere else?

The location is wonderful and you have a beautiful view over Lake Te Anau across to the mountains.
The room was more than adequate and the staff were so helpful when we realised that we needed to have snow chains to head out to Milford Sound. They quickly directed us to a servo where we could hire them, but only after checking around the Lodge first to see if we could borrow some. Thank you and expect us for a full week next time.
Perfect location. We used our stay as a base to explore this beautiful part of New Zealand but ended up spending time hanging out by lake Te Anau itself. The hotel was clean and tidy and John was absolutely wonderful, he helped us out when we arrived pointing out the places we needed to find. I beat the views of the mountains in winter would be amazing, just out the window. Thanks
Motel looks & feels new, located at Te Anau lake front. View from unit 11 (upper level) was absolutely fabulous! The 2 bedroom unit can easily accomodate 5 based on bedding configuration, shared area is spacious, unit was super clean & has a kitchehette. Check in was efficient. Parking is plentily available as the ground is also used for camping & motor vans
The room was very clean and the bathrooms were modern! Rooms, bathroom and kitchen come equipped with everything you need.
The staff were very lovely and let you know all the information you need to know on the town Te Anau. They turned the heater on for us before our check in which I thought was very sweet!
After walking the Kepler Track and finishing early, we were kindly able to get an early arrival time at the motel and made use of the lovely spa bath with bath salts provided. Then feet up on the comfy loungers to watch some tele. Luxury and time to recover; just what the doctor ordered.
It was in a residential area with a wonderful view of the mountains and lake te anau. The whole town is quiet though so maybe anywhere is this nice. The room was large, glass floor to ceiling windows with view, clean modern bathroom, good shower, heat and fan for hot days provided.
Perfect place to stay in Te Anau. We stayed for 2 nights and couldn't fault anything. Lovely room, great facilities, very comfortable beds and who could argue with the view. Perfectly placed for a walk to the centre or a walk to the bird sanctuary.
The room was really nice, very clean and comfortable. Reception lady was very pleasant. The Anchorage Motel was one street back from Lake Te Anau and a short walk to The Te Anau Club where we had a lovely tea.
The motel offered close proximity to Te Anau and Milford Sound. It was a spacious two bedroom unit, with comfortable beds and room darkening shades. We all slept very well.
The unit we stayed in was nice, but very small. The facilities were nice and clean. The property was located right in front of Lake Te Anau which was amazing.
