I never heard about Mandal before, and I had not prepared...
I never heard about Mandal before, and I had not prepared for our stay well, but I really enjoyed my 2.5-hour walk around the city. We also went to a beach, but just to walk as it was cold that evening. Certainly worth better preparation if you want to combine sightseeing and hiking in one place.

Mandal is the most beautiful summer city in Norway. Long beautiful beaches, rich culture (famous Norwegian artists like Gustav Vigeland were born here) and a pitoresque old town with white wooden houses.Stef-TuNorway - 10Scored 10
Small city. Easy to get around on foot or on a bike.
Small city. Easy to get around on foot or on a bike. Lovely beaches. Nice nature hikes. Uranienborg is a hill accessible from three paths. Great view from the top. Bring a flashlight and explore the tunnels that go through it.

The cabins are well equipped with kitchen stuff, microwave, dishwasher, coffe maker, tableware, etc. The neighborhood surrounding the hotel and the islands in front are very nice with beautiful houses. The place has a pool, sauna, store so you can buy groceries, and a restaurant (but was not open during my stay because of the season).

We swam in the sea most days and walked into Mandal from there and visited the lighthouse by car and other local villages. We also ate in the cafe on site one evening. The staff were always friendly and helpful and the accommodation was simple but well-equipped with wondeful views.

Everyone was helpful, the food was great at breakfast and for dinner on another night. The location and access to the city was wonderful.
