Negombo is in two parts.
Negombo is in two parts. I was in a district of Negombo, close to the airport not in Negombo itself. I did not realise this nor was it made clear. I thought the hotel was an airport transit hotel. It wasn't t as it offered no shower and change facilities once you checked out. The reception area was tiny. There was no comfortable area to sit,no outside space. I had too long from checkout to my flight. I therefore had to pay to keep my room on. There was quite a walk to Browns beach, few shops and restaurants along the way. No signs either to the beach..If you require a hotel overnight, free airport shuttle and you have a decent flight time then the hotel would be okay. Otherwise I would not recommend as there is nothing to do at the hotel and restricted to other amenities.TINAUnited Kingdom - 8.0Scored 8.0

This is usually the first stop arriving to Sri Lanka or the last stop on the way back to the airport. However, Negombo has the potential to be a destination in itself. The beaches are not bad (may not be as good as down south), nice beach front cafes, restaurants and deck chairs to chill with a drink and watch the sunsets. Diving is possible during the season (not mid April to Sept). Lots of cafes and restaurants with variety of food (local, western, Asian and middle eastern). Stays can be in hostels, small family run hotels or 4 & 5 star hotel chains. Negombo has the canals, churches, Buddhist temples and Hindu Temples to explore. Negombo town is not as busy as Colombo, but has everything you need. Train and main Bus terminal will take you to all destinations within the country, not forgetting the proximity to the International airport. Recommend 2 to 3 full days.

20 minutes from the airport. I got in at 3am and didn't want to travel 1 hour+ to get to Colombo. Stayed in Negombo. Much quieter than Colombo. Price was great too! Negombo is a nice Colonial city, with beautiful churches, an amazing Buddist temple, boat ride around the lagoon, lots to see.

Unfortunately due to my recovering from two breaks (ankle and femur) I wasn't able to get to the beach so I can't give you an account but it did look pretty wicked, as for negumbo resort what a great place to get a very relaxing holiday, really good bars with all the latest music and serious food in the restaurant's. Negumbo is much improved after the last few years. Good place to stay for airport arrival or departure. Some nice seafood restaurants on the main road. The beach is ok for a sunset drink and there are good waves but it isn't as clean as it could be

Their hospitality really impressive and makes you feel like you just staying at friends home. Manager Chandana teached us a lot about Sri Lanka culture, food, suggested different interesting places around Negombo, and even helped us to visit them. Still hope to visit again later and go to fishing with him. Hotel looks cute and suitable for long stays. The rooms are a little old, but for the price, the value-money-ratio is okay in my opinion. Breakfast was really good. The staff was quite nice and helpful. Only Check-in did not go well, even through we informed them we would arrive during the night, nobody was there to give us a room. It took really long until we finally got our room.
