This wasn't our first stay, so we obviouly like this place. The manager Anand couldn't have been kinder. He looked after us like super VIPs. He was everywhere making sure that we were fine. A big thank you to him. We forgot a swim suit and he offered to send it by courier service to our next hotel, which he did. The hotel itself is small and not for everyone. The rooms needs a complete rework - they don't do this place justice. They are in a poor state. But the location is incredible and I hope, this will never change - please never cut ANY of the trees! This is the biggest asset- the jungle and all its noises, the beautiful light filtering through the canopy.

Gem Fields Rest Hotel has got to be the most convenient hotel for anyone passing through or staying in Rathnapura. Whether you are travelling by car or public transport the hotel works well being just a short walk from the town centre. At the same time it is far enough away from the hubbub to feel calm, almost rural.
Bhanu is a fabulous host who goes out of his way to ensure his guests enjoy their stay. Brilliant breakfasts which can be provided to personal taste are served on the lovely balcony overlooking the garden. Bhanu is a wealth of information on local sights and the Sri Lankan culture in general. For the gem aficianado he will point you in the right direction and alert you to the do's and don'ts of negotiation.

Since Ratnapura is a very busy city (loud and smelly), it,s nice to be in a quiet place away from the bustle of the town. Summer Ridge is a 12 minute walk away from a main street up on a green hill among tropical vegetation and fantastic birds. It,s nice and quiet. If you have a choice, take the room with the balcony.

4Seasons Holiday Home was an excellent experience and exceeded our expectations. The house was extremely clean with excellent lighting and many fans. You get an entire house with a huge living area, dining area, fully equipped kitchen, big bedroom with strong AC, big bathroom and huge balcony. The bathroom has hot water, soap, shampoo, toothpaste and a new toothbrush. We had fresh clean towels offered. There is filtered water directly from the tap, as well as multiple bottles of water throughout the house. Janaka and Mali were AMAZING hosts and we felt like they were our Sri Lankan mom and dad. They were so warm and kind, and extremely attentive. There are waterfalls around that you can visit, and of course the gem market is strong. There are various gem markets to visit including cut and polished market and the rough market. We also visited a few mines close by. The town is a 5 min walk away from the house to get anything you need. We would definitely return here when we come back to Ratnapura.
