It's a great view of city and village life.
It's a great view of city and village life. You do the loop and that some what sums up your trip.
I did hit the Mountain you take a boat under and I took the "Back road" by mistake and ended up driving 58km though Laos villages
Seriously the best part of the trip.
I got to see a side of Laos 99% Of tourist never will so def. something worth seeing if you find that back road, its not hard to see if you do the loop backwards from what hotels advise you.
the caves are great, Dragon cave is a SERIOUS hike, the first few caves just east of the town are barely 5 minute visits and are used for praying not so. much tourism.

Just place for change of scenery from Thailand on visa run.
Just place for change of scenery from Thailand on visa run. Very easy border crossing and for visa on arrival to Laos not crowded on day we crossed. Good for stay and travel to other parts of Laos mountain area which had vrey much nicer weather. If you are motorcycle rider starting point for Thakek loop. Laos people were very friendly.

The town has a very laid back atmosphere and is friendly and reasonably priced. There is a very special and spiritually important temple if one has an affinity for that.

The karst mountains near the town are very beautiful.
The karst mountains near the town are very beautiful. Traffic on route to Vietnam can be a bit intimidating. The smaller dirt roads into the mountains are the best. Worthwhile wearing a face mask and dustproof goggles as the dust raised by pickup trucks can be suffocating and visibility reduced to practically zero especially with a big truck travelling at speed on a dusty dirt back road.

Thakhek is the old town, every architectures I saw it is full of history. You should walk around in the morning it is very nice weather. And if you like to outside for adventures. There are many caves around. You can rent the motorbike to go there it is not too far. Two sides of the road to adventure you will see local people living. They are so nice and friendly.

Nice near the river.
Nice near the river. Good start point for Thakhek loop by motorscooter, which we only went halfway and then returned back on the route for second part. 570km in 4D/3N trip, on mainly good roads. Stayed at Sabbadai guesthouse on 1st & 3rd night, and near Konglor Cave 2nd night. Get to Konglor area before dark, as quite a lot of potholes. Roads generally very good.
Stayed 2 wonderful nights at Naga Hostel. Binh and his family were so accomodating, staying up for us to check in late when our bus had a delayed arrival to Thakhek. Binh was so helpful in sharing where to go on the loop and the best route to take.
The hostel was very clean, has great breakfast options and had a very comfortable sleep with AC.
Binh is a great communicator and also organised my transfer to Vientiane. Thanks so much 🙏
Hostel was great. We arrived in the middle of the night and they left us a message on which beds to use, which was wonderful. 12p. dorm with curtains in between beds and outlets. Dorm was fine but after the Loop we stayed in a twin bed which was even better! Showers have hot water and staff is super nice and helpful. Definitely recommend staying here before and after the Thakhek Loop!
It was clean clean clean and updated everywhere. The best bed and pillows I’ve had in Laos. I didn’t want to leave. Gorgeous decor and furnishings with attention to detail. The owner was a beautiful woman and spoke delightful English. Also the free breakfast was lovely ❤️
The bus was so late getting into town, I didn't arrive until just after 11pm. I had messaged the property to update them and it was no problem at all. So friendly, the room is basic but clean and does the job for one night before starting the loop.
Nice little spot to spend a couple nights in Thakhek. Mr Noy was super responsive and drove us to Green Climbers home on our last morning in town. Beds are comfortable and much larger than a standard twin size. Bathrooms were clean, no complaints.
Nice and spacious room. Good bathroom with wall between shower and toilet and warm shower. Comfortable beds. Super clean. Nice and helpful people. Kept the backpacks while we did the loop and took really good care of it! Thank you! 🙏
This place is central for everyone that wants to do the Thakhek Loop so you can just walk around to find a place to rent a motorbike. Everyone there is either going to or coming back from the loop making information sharing a breeze.
Extremely comfortable bed with nice A/C and privacy curtains. The bathrooms were nice and clean as well. Comfortable lounge area and they'll store your big backpack for when you're gone on the loop for a small fee.
The owners of the hostel are super welcominga nd freindly. Helped a lot with planning the thakhek loop.
Everything in the property is very clean and the dorms are comfortable. Food is good as well
We got the deluxe room, with private bathroom. It was very spacious, there is a nice terrace as well.
Staff is very helpful and they rent motorbike for the loop at very competitive price!
Clean, comfortable, good facilities. The host is incredibly kind and thoughtful. Great info on the Thadek loop. They have a place to store your luggage while you do the loop.
Fine for one night if you"re on a budget. 24-hour reception is convenient, friendly staff and we could leave our stuff there for a week while doing the Thakhek loop.
The owner is very nice. we arrived at 01:30am and she let the door open for us. We also could leave our luggage there for the thakhek loop. very chill atmosphere!
Beautiful, nicely furnished small hotel with excellent central but still quiet location. A few min away from Mekong river. Our suite was very large and pleasant
