Alagnia is a beautiful village in the mountains.
As I was travelling on a Sunday there was no public transport to take me there so I had to wait in Vercelli until the next day.

The town centre & main square were very nice with typically Italian cafes & bars looking out onto the squares. However, unless we missed something, it is not really a tourist town being mainly a commercial & industrial town.

Small city but gives you a good sample of a town that is a Italian museum with the open sky.
Just walking around the main square "Piazza Cavour", visit the impressive Basilica di Sant'Andrea from the 1200s (Gothic church earlier than Notre-Dame in Paris) just make it worth the visit.
There are very good places to eat at reasonable and good prices such as having the "frito piemontese" (fried brains and other unsual parts, must be booked in advance) at Trattoria San Giovanni (Piazza Risorgimento 51), or the tradicional vercellesse rissotto called "Panissa" made with beans and sausage or "ranne fritte" (little fried frogs) at the Ristorante/Hotel Garibaldi (Via Thaon de Revel 8). You can have also more traditional meals at pasta Pasta & Pizza located at Corso Garibaldi 35.
Caffe and pastries in the town are also amazing, like the ones at Bislakko Pastry Bar (Piazza Risorgimento).
There are many good ice cream shops and places to buy fine clothing and shoes. For shoes you have a huge place in the outskits of the city called Pittarello with things for every taste and pocket.
If you want to know about local art you can visit the local Leone museum and if you what to participate in art/jewellery auctions you have the well known "Meeting Art" auction place.

Well worth the diversion from Torino.
Well worth the diversion from Torino. The basilica opposite the station is seminal in the shift from Romanesque to Gothic in northern Italy. There is also a fine museum of paintings and frescoes lifted from decayed churches of the region (but only open in the afternoons) A revelation. This is the rice capital of Europe and you will be offered amazing risotto
Surprisingly large house and room. Full of antiques with true charm. Central for everything you need. A garage was arranged to store my bike overnight which is great peace of mind for the last day in Italy.
Nice restaurants close by with some really stunning food. A great breakfast is served in a very busy and so Italian bar opposite. All very fresh and well looked after.
Vercelli is in a great location on the way south or north to access the Alps and in my case the Mont Blanc Tunnel. Surrounded by some stunning countryside
The guesthouse is right on the square, parking is simple, the room was lovely and plenty for 2, bathroom unexpectedly large and well appointed, access very simple. I did walk past the door a couple of times before I found it, even though the instructions were very clear. I feel so bad that I've forgotten the young lady's name but she was awesome. Attentive but never intrusive and so very helpful to us.
The room is an easy and short walk to all the beautiful sites in Vercelli
I can't blame the hotel for Google Maps, but I went right by the hotel and 200 meters further to the 'location'. There is another hotel right next to the Cerruti, and I was going to ask there...and then I saw my hotel, behind the other one.
Very friendly and helpful staff. I was told they spoke English, and their English was much better than my non-existent Italian. But we got the information across.
The appartment is in the middle of the old center of Vercelli. The cosy appertment is situated in a quite street and has just been renovated. The owner was very friendly and ready to help out with tips for restaurants, places to visit. Breakfast can be taken at different places in town - I was at the pasteccieria Mongini - a very traditional and nice to place.
The location is right off Piazza Cavour, which is a perfect location. The room is comfortable, quiet and air conditioned if you wish. You also have use of a wonderful outdoor patio. The owner provides great recommendations for places to eat and what to see while visiting Vercelli. We would stay here again if returning to the area.
The restaurant was fantastic, the food was first class and not too expensive.
The breakfast was a very good selection.
The rooms were clean, tidy and had everything you needed.
All the staff there are super friendly and make you feel welcome.
The next time I am in that area, I will be booking this hotel again.
The owner was super nice and let me in early since I was riding my bike on the Rome pilgrimage route. He even washed my back off before putting it in the garage. The hotel was spacious, comfortable, and there is an amazing restaurant a block way (huge thanks to the owner for sending me that way).
What a lovely, quirky and unusual hotel! Our greeting was warm and friendly, the surroundings were quirky with a definite fascination for owls!
The room was spotlessly clean, well appointed and very comfortable.
I would most definitely stay here again!
This place is very well positioned. The hosts are friendly and super concerned with our enjoyment of the stay. The room is super spacious and is very comfortable, plus the hotel doesn't have a lot of other rooms, which made the stay very intimate!
Modo is more than a family hotel , kind people , loving people , so much caring , every were you will find love , and respect ,.
i will alway stay in Modo , becuase i feel like home and people like my own family , love it
Very clean. Great value for money. I go for the football at Pro Vercelli and it is right next to the historic old stadium so perfect for my trip. Only a 15 minute walk to the station, less time to the main areas of town.
It was small. Family owned and run. Hospitable. Came to try the Michelin Star restaurant located in the hotel also run by the same family. Food did not disappoint. Great to have both in same location.
This is a big appartment with three bathrooms. Kitchen facilities. Not far from Vercelli's main square. Good explanations from the owner. Parking on site, plenty of room.
Quirky decor that you will not find in an ordinary hotel room. The owner is very friendly and helpful. Access to a washing machine was much appreciated.
