Lake Views from Every Angle
On a narrow peninsula protruding into Lake Garda, Sirmione is a wonderful town famed for its multi-turreted castle, Roman remains and hot springs.
The 13th-century lakeside castle makes quite an impressive sight as you cross its drawbridge to enter the old town beyond. From its walls there are lovely views of red-roofed buildings towards the trees hiding the ruins of a huge villa that belonged to 1st-century BC Roman poet Catullus. Part of the complex included baths featuring the thermal waters, and the town still has a spa today on the opposite side of the promontory.
Nearby is the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore with its 15th-century frescoes, and the surrounding narrow, cobbled streets are home to stone buildings and several Sirmione hotels on Lake Garda. The majority of hotels are mid-range, but there are still a few 4 and 5-star hotels in Sirmione to choose from.
Booking.com also has lots of accommodations by the lake in the newer part of town, and its Lugana Vecchia area has a UNESCO World Heritage-listed prehistoric site.
To the west of Sirmione is the lakefront town of Desenzano del Garda, while to the east is Peschiera del Garda, close to the Gardaland and Canevaworld theme parks. The nearest airport is Verona Catullo Airport to the southeast.

Such a beautiful spot. We stayed right in the heart of the historic centre and I can’t recommend it enough. The people are so friendly and the area is just beautiful. It’s not overly expensive compared to a lot of Italy. It is touristy - but not in an unbearable way. The locals are very welcoming and helpful. It is small so I recommend 1-2 days.

A very colorful small town with a lot of ancient sights and beautiful architecture. Excellent local food with both seafood and meat assortment will satisfy any gourmet. The local lake with clear water gives the impression that you are on the sea coast. A wonderful sleep with the sound of the waves if you are in a hotel on the coast... for example at the Marconi Hotel. As an opportunity to relax and unwind, Simione is wonderful. From the small, easily walkable old town, to the accessible attractions (the castle, Roman ruins, and museum), and the relaxed spritz-o'clock culture, topped off with a lovely Spa resort, it was a wonderful, easy-going stay. You must stay in the old-town, but there is no need to be in the centre, as the place is so small. All of the restaurants and bars we visited were lovely, so you can't really go wrong. Book yourself some time in Aquaregia Spa, it's wonderful. If you're arriving by car, make sure your parking is pre-arranged, as there are no private cars on the island.

Sirmione is beautiful. It has a little bit of everything.... from historical buildings, a castle and ruins, beaches, gorgeous views, parks, lots of quaint shops, walkable throughout, water-activities and amazing restaurants.

Lovely staff who always greet you with a nice greeting. Infection control is well taken care of during breakfast. There was a wide selection of delicious croissants, cakes and freshly squeezed juices. Parking: it is obviously cramped to drive into the old town, but there is parking inside the area in front of the hotel. All you have to do is leave the keys at the reception, if it gets in the way.

Rooms in the new building were on high standard. Should be a 4star. Half and hour to 45 mins to Central part of Sirmione walking wise. Definitely a fantastic place to stay. The room was a nice size for our little family, clean and the TV had sky channels in English which was ideal for the little ones.
