Sextantio Albergo Diffuso, hotel in Santo Stefano di Sessanio

Sextantio Albergo Diffuso offers unique accommodation in the fortified medieval village of Santo Stefano di Sessanio, deep in the Abruzzo hillside, at 1250 metres a.s.l.

There is a very interesting story about this Albergo Diffuso. The village is amazing and the room is very nicely rennovated and very confortable. The staffs were very kind and helpful in carrying baggages, booking restaurants and telling us the story. Breakfast and lounge were also very nice abd confortable, as well as the restaurant.

Convento di San Colombo, hotel in Santo Stefano di Sessanio

Located in Barisciano in the Abruzzo Region, 16 km from L’Aquila, Convento di San Colombo is set in its garden and it features a children's playground and views of the mountain.

The accommodation place is really beautiful and the room is very comfortable. However, one thing that they don't mention is just how breathtaking their view is from the garden. WOW WOW WOW!!! We had no idea that this region was going to be so spectacularly beautiful and wish that we had stayed longer for hiking but it just means we have to come back.

Residenza La Torre, hotel in Santo Stefano di Sessanio

Surrounded by nature, Residenza La Torre offers self-catering apartments in Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga National Park. Apartments feature a fully equipped kitchenette.

The location of the hotel is very special, though it would be good to have views/ more information about outside areas prior to booking, as this would have effected our choice of room. The village is pretty and interesting and we enjoyed being able to go hiking in the park without needing to use the car. The room was very well equipped, also with a good kitchen area, making it easy to cater for ourselves when we chose, though restaurants locally are limited.

Residence Il Palazzo, hotel in Santo Stefano di Sessanio

Housed in a 17th-century building, Residence Il Palazzo offers rustic-style rooms and apartments.

Fantastic setting just outside the medieval town centre and a fantastic and carefully renovated building. Easily accessible by car. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was excellent, although heavy on cakes and sweet breads. It would have been nice with some more protein options, such as cheeses and salami. Coffee was outstanding.

We expected luxury in a uniquely rustic environment and we weren’t disappointed. The view from our room window was stunning as was the view from the restaurant terrace. Candle light created a warm atmosphere. But the highlight was the quality of the service. A positive culture which was contagious amongst the guests. Thanks to all. We ate at ala Locanda each night and were very happy with the diversity and quality of the menu. We hiked to Rocca Calascio, drove to the observatory and walked, had lunch at the refuge on Campo Imperatore where we BBQed our meat bought from the refuge. On the way back to Rome we visiting L’Aquila, the sophisticated capital of the region.

    It's a jewel!

It's a jewel! Shame that it is dominated by three cranes at the moment as they are rebuilding the medicean tower, distroyed by the 2009 earthquake (yes, very slow activity!) Go to the nearby Rocca Calascia, parking nearby is limited so better to go before 11am; the walk to the castle is rocky but worthwhile. Fantastic views of the mountain range around and the valleys around. Book a restaurant for the evening as they get quite busy in Santo Stefano. We ate at the Bettola di Geppetto in the centre of the village and the Locanda del Palazzo at the bottom, just outside the village, both very good and with character.

    A lovely hill town.

A lovely hill town. Much, much better signage---and---signage placement--- is needed for everything! Even with "directions" from 3 different people we couldn't find the trail head for the hiking path from Santo Stefano to the Rocca Calascio. Also, it was very difficult to find the reception for our hotel because of the lack of clear and well-placed signs. Don't let that discourage you from visiting---just keep it in mind. It is a bit of a challenge. But, Santo Stefano is worth the visit.

Our hosts were lovely and were willing to help with anything we needed. Lucca took time to explain the history of the palazzo as well as the area. All of the breakfast items were sourced from their own properties or locally. This area is authentic and spectacularly beautiful. Rocca Calascio is worth the hike.

The hamlet is tiny, only 67 permanent residents and so well preserved it feels like going back in time. There are only a few restaurants but all offer home made, local food. I loved the fact that it is surrounded only by mountains and there are no other modern buildings for miles. Truly a great find in a wild and still under rated of Italy.

The convento di san colombo is a beautiful hotel where you can find quietness, a lovely room and a beautiful outside space with a beautiful view. Overall the perfect environment to relax. The hotel restaurant is highly recommended, reasonably priced and also offers vegetarian options. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Also they were extremely helpful when we had troubles with our car as they managed the communication in italian for us. They even went ahead and organized a place for us where we got the car fixed easily and fast.

The location of B&B La Dote is perfect! You have a very nice view from the balcony and there is just silence during the night. The property provides everything you might need during vacation, and there are some goodies for breakfast and also very good coffee that you can enjoy also outside. The owner was very flexible and helpful: she came to pick us up at Bivio di Barisciano (around 10 km to Santo Stefano di Sessanio) because there are no buses on Sunday that bring you up to the village. We will be back for sure!🙂

The property is a renovated farm. We had a living room/ kitchen and good bathroom. The bed was very comfortable and warm, the breakfast nice with home made yoghurt and cakes. The bedroom was in the loft with rather steep stairs. This was fine for us but could be a problem for less agile people, especially if they need to get down to the bathroom at night. The welcome was friendly, parking on site great. Santo Stefano di Sessanio a great little place to enjoy is right next door.

What a unique hotel high up in the mountains in a 16th century abandoned village. The floors and ceilings are original with comfortable beds made of wool. Modern bathrooms though. Lovely soap and oil in the bathroom. Staff were fantastic. The restaurant was rustic. We also enjoyed the extra activity of truffle hunting. The separate bar was also excellent

This place was beautiful! Fireplace in shared room was cozy. The candles added a luxurious nod to the simple yet elegant atmosphere. Very quiet and peaceful. The hotel provided special surprises for our four-legged family member. The proximity to a hiking trail was an unexpected bonus! We even flew a kite from the breezy hillside.

It is a unique property comprised of various buildings in this historic, medieval, I believe, hill settlement. The spaces are unique and I appreciate that the hotel is breathing life into a place which may have fell into disuse previously. The staff is very professional and friendly as well.

When I travel, the two most important things for me are cleanliness and the bed. This hotel is impeccably clean and the bed is super comfortable! And it’s sooo quiet. Tea room was appreciated.
