Fly to Naples International Airport, 25km from Pompei. From there, take the Circumvesuviana train (40 minutes). Alternatively, drive via A3 motorway (30 minutes). For domestic travellers, direct trains from Rome take approximately 2 hours.
The most convenient airport for Pompei, Italy is Naples International Airport. It's ideal due to its proximity, approximately 30 kilometres away, and its extensive domestic and international flight connections.
Pompei, Italy, is well-served by public transport. The Circumvesuviana train connects Pompei to Naples and Sorrento, while local buses provide access to the city's key sites. Taxis are also available. Alternatively, Pompei is compact and pedestrian-friendly, making walking a viable option. Cycling is less common due to the city's cobblestone streets.
The best area to stay in Pompei, Italy, is the city centre, near the archaeological site. It offers easy access to historical attractions, restaurants, and shops. It's also well-connected to public transport, making travel convenient.

Definitely a great place to stay to see the nearby attractions but, despite having three train stations, the transport links are not great. We were based here for a week and found the public transport frustrating. Last minute platform changes for trains only announced in Italian and giving insufficient time to change to the right platform. Buses leaving up to ten minutes early or not stopping. There is a Flixbus to Sorrento but it only gives three and a bit hours on a day trip from Pompei. To visit Capri we had to have a night in Sorrento which was an unexpected extra expense. On a final note if you eat gluten free the choice is fantastic. It is understood and catered for!

Pompeii is a lovely and cozy and absolutely beautiful town!
Pompeii is a lovely and cozy and absolutely beautiful town!
As a solo female traveler I always felt very safe, and I was able to fully enjoy and explore both the city, and the sights like the ruins and mount vesuvius.
Note that there aren’t any Ubers or any easy way to get a taxi if you’re staying a little outside the main city core (I stayed at a 30 minute walk away from the Main Street), but it’s very walkable and there’s pavement all around, and some busses if you can figure them out but I generally just walked everywhere :)
There’s also areas for parking if you’re bringing/renting a car or even for campers and RV’s right next to the city centre (abt 3-5min walk from the Main Street).
The Pompeii ruins are a must visit and I recommend going with a guide that’s also an archeologist, I found several tours including the one I took that also went to Herculaneum via GetYourGuide. There I also found the “tour” (just a shuttle bus really) that went to the highest entrance of Mount Vesuvius (leaving a 20min/1km hike to the top of the crater) which was also very cool and I definitely recommend going there too while you’re in Pompeii!

The ruins of Pompei is an amazing place to visit.
The ruins of Pompei is an amazing place to visit. We booked a personal guide with Askos tours. A fella by the name of Alfredo. He was an archaeologist and had worked on the excavation of Pompei so he was full of amazing facts. You can walk around on your own but without the right guide it would be a waste. So many amall details that you would miss on your own. Its a long day walking but worth every step. I would highly recommend seeing it.

Pompeii was amazing - I could’ve roamed around the ruins for another day. Our hotel was a 4-minute walk to the ruins! No lines because it is off season - the weather is perfect! We ate at the hotel restaurant and it was amazing - one of the best meals in Italy so far!
One of the best experiences. The owners are lovely and helpful. The house is clean, AC works great, the breakfast was top-notch, and the pool was beautiful and refreshing. You cannot beat the location - walking distance from the Pompei ruins, several restaurants, and the train station to get on the train to Sorento, Positano, Rome. We were also allowed to leave our car on the premises after we checked out for the entire day - which saved us a headache and money on parking when we went to tour Pompei and Vesuvius. We loved it!
We had very warm welcoming, even when we were too late. The hosts are very pleasant and helpful people.
The apartment looks better than the pictures in Booking, on a very quiet street, far from the tourist area.
Everything was very comfortable-with all that one can need-for us it was 5 star experience. We are very grateful to our hosts and would like to return in Pompei. Just perfect location- nearby center, archeological park and train station. If you plan to stay in Pompei we highly recommend Domus 47 .
Everything was excellent, the room was beautifully decorated, spacious and accommodating. Bed was so comfy. Bathroom was gorgeous! The staff- over the top, wanted to do everything and more to make you have the best time. We had a few problems with some things that the hotel had nothing to do with YET they took the time to help us! Couldn’t have asked for a better hotel to stay and to top it off the BEST staff. Thank you all!!!
Dino was a great host and we appreciated the additional services. He drove us from Naples airport then at end of our visit to Minori. He provided good advice about local trains (our fault we kept getting lost). We enjoyed listening to Dino’s stories about life in the south of Italy. Had a fabulous seafood meal at Dino’s friend’s place nearby. Thank you Dino for making our stay in Pompeii so enjoyable. Hoping you can rest a bit.?
The BnB was very well maintained. It is one of the best accommodations we have stayed in yet. You would have to go to a luxury hotel to find something better. The owner is very helpful and takes a lot of pride in the building and the area. He will give you great tips on where to go and how to get there. A must stay if you are planning on going to Pompeii or even Naples.
This is a lovely hotel with a haven for a garden. Our room was lovely and we liked that we had a small balcony. We ate dinner in the lemon garden on both nights we were there because the food and service were excellent. Breakfast was also excellent and served in a very welcoming dining room. If we ever return to Pompeii we would go back to the Hotel Forum.
Flawlessly refurbished and clean room; large car park on the hotel premises; friendly personnel and customer-oriented management; cosy restaurant with a great breakfast offering including a much broader variety of food than that common in Italy. The design of the garden with its illumination in the night is unforgettable.
Our first night in Italy was wonderful. The room was very clean. Location was perfect. The ruins of Pompeii are less than 10 minutes' walk away. Luca was there when needed. A very friendly man who made our stay more than pleasant. Thank you very much Luca. I recommend everyone to stay here
The Villa is nice and clean rooms with balcony are spacious and you have an amazing view at mountains from the balcony. If you look real hard you can see the sea as well :) Staff is helpful and you can see that they care for their property.
Breakfast was really good considering Italy :)
A big thanks to the receptionist! Very gentil and helpful. The hostel is lovely! Well decorated and very well located! Close to restaurants and bars, also near Pompeii archeological site and train station. People from pompei is one of the most friendly I’ve encountered in Italy.
THe staff was fantastic they provided all the help we needed. Our filght was late they were waiting for us at the premaces and also suggested a very efficient shuttle service from the Airport in Naples to the Hotel at Pompeii
We had a freezer for the first time in 5 days of being in an extremely hot and humid Italy. It helped that we could freeze some water. The aircon was great in the heat. The balcony with space to hang towels/washing was nice.
In a great location, walking distance from the ruins of Pompeii you'll find a boutique hotel with only a few rooms and the loveliest host one can find.
The room was super comfortable and breakfast was wonderful
the location was excellent. was within walking of train station and Pompeii. breakfast was served there and dinner was possible ad well. There was parking available as well which is a hot commodity in Italy.
Beautiful, spotless property a short walk to Pompei ruins. The best part of our stay was our wonderful hostess who provided us with so much, including the best breakfast I’ve ever had at a B and B.
Location. Hotel located in the main square. Entrance to the pompeii ruins is next to the hotel. AC works well. Front counter has a person 24 hours. I will come back to this hotel if I visit again.
Such a cozy and clean room, lovely garden and best location. Big thank to Giuseppe for the hospitaly. Great coffee in the breakfast and the best pizza in Bella Vesta restaurant ♥️
The view and room was very splendid! We lived very close to the towns center and not at all to far away from the Pompeii ruins. The hotel workers were hospitable and very kind.
