Very welcoming at point of arriving : I told him I had a very long and difficult journey throughout my travel experience . He judged I was hot and immediately pulled ice cold bottle of water from the fridge ; the snacks and cooking facilities offered in the kitchen was excellent . Bedroom excellent and bed linen and towels etc changed during my stay ( only there for three day) . Throughout the house was kept to high standard in quality and cleanliness. Very impressive all round .

Very nice restored hotel with a lot of charm, very friendly staff and good service, good breakfast and excellent restaurant with a wonderful atmosphere, great view from the terrace and certain rooms.
Be aware that you're remote on a hill above Varese, but that's what makes this place special. Nice surrounding area with a lot of possibilities for hiking, etc..
Visiting Varese and traveling by train and bus/cable car is possible and quite easy, even with luggage (hotel helps with timetables).

First -- this is a GREAT place to bring dogs; there is a trail from the hotel up a local wooded hill that my very nervous dogs find restful and, well, useful, which is rare for them on trips.
The room is wonderful, balcony and restaurant views spectacular. Comfy and quiet, very snug.
Hotel Grotto Bagat is located on the shores of Lake Lugano, on the road to Brusimpiano. All rooms are spacious and some offer lake views. The restaurant serves local cuisine.
