On the main street of Bergamo's Città Alta district, Hotel Piazza Vecchia is near the Cathedral and the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore.

The location was exceptional, right in the heart of Bergamo. It is an old building that has been fully renovated and earthquake strengthened. The staff were all friendly and very helpful. We booked a Deluxe Double Room with Balcony, which was spacious, with a great bathroom. The balcony was in a courtyard, but we had a great view from the window. TIP - there is a rear entrance with elevator for your luggage. No need to lug bags up the stairs at the front entrance.
Offering air-conditioned rooms, La Castellana Loft Hotel offers rooms and apartments spread around the centre of Bergamo and up to 400 metres from the main building.
GombitHotel is set in Bergamo centre, a 2-minute walk from Santa Maria Maggiore Cathedral. It offers air-conditioned rooms with minibar, TV and free Wi-Fi.

By far the hotel with the best location in all of Bergamo. Located in the old town, it is a short walk from all the main sites. The BF is excellent and the staff polite and courteous. The rooms were spacious and although they don't have an evening turn down service, our requirements for extra water etc were attended to without fuss even later in the evenings.

Yes ,
I like a lot the property San Giorgio in Bergamo .
The arrival point of low-cost airlines and cheap flights to Milan, beautiful Bergamo is a tourist destination in its own right. In the foothills of the Alps, the city is spread over 2 levels. The main sights are in the upper level, or Città Alta, where sloping, cobbled streets open into pretty squares.
One such square is Piazza Vecchia with its pavement cafés, beautiful library and elegant Palazzo della Ragione. Through its arches is the Cappella Colleoni, an impressive chapel with an ornately sculpted façade and even more ornate interior. The next door Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore has awe-inspiring frescoes.
Surrounding streets contain several Bergamo old town hotels and B&Bs, while surrounding the whole upper city are 17th-century Venetian walls. There are still remains of the Rocca, the castle that guarded them, and there is also a castle in San Vigilio, a hilltop village reached by funicular railway.
A funicular also descends to the modern town – Città Bassa. Nearby is the Accademia Carrara, a fine art gallery, and opposite is the GAMEC modern art museum. The Serie A club Atalanta FC play in a stadium to the north-east, while south-west is the train station from where buses to Orio al Serio Airport depart.
Booking.com offers several Bergamo hotels near the airport and the neighbouring Orio Centre shopping complex.
Beautiful town, especially Alta. We found this location great for using public transport. We took the train to Milan on one day and a train to Lake Garda another day. The people are friendly and lots of choice for food and drinks.

Bergamo is split into 2 parts Bassa and Alta.
Bergamo is split into 2 parts Bassa and Alta. The lower part (Bassa) is bigger, busier, more modern but still great to visit ( a must see is the Accademia Carrara- wonderful paintings that you can get amazingly close to).
The tourists head for Citta Alta which is the stunning fortified old town perched on top of a steep hill with cobbled, narrow streets, beautiful Piazzas, cafe, restaurants and stunning architecture.
A great place just to stroll around, meander along the back streets or walk along the ancient Venetian walls. Day-trippers disappear at night and many groups stay in Bergamo Bassa leaving it much quieter and very pleasant at night in the old town with loads of good eateries, bars, cafes and gelaterias to visit.
If you're there ay 10pm listen to the bells of the Campanone, Palazzo del Podestà in the Piazza Vecchia, tolling 100 chimes- a reminder of the old curfew when the town gates where due to close, yes they still;l do it every night and we loved the sound of the bells.
Top reason we stop in Bergamo is it's location. and it's brilliant connections by train, bus or flights. We arrived by train from Ravenna and got a town bus from opposite the main train station up to the top Citta Alta for 1.75 euro and later flew out from Bergamo Orio al Serio airport. You can get a bus direct to the airport from the top of the old town or at various stops down through the town to opposite the train station- costs 3euros one way , so cheap and super convenient.
TOP TIP if you're going to the airport and staying in the old town then join the bus at the start of the route at Colle Aperto (next to La Marianna ice cream cafe) because the bus gets super busy on the way down and picks up so many people that you can't move by the time you get to Bergamo Bassa. I wouldn't recommend taking the bus if you've got large suitcases or lots of luggage as it just gets too crowded and you may not be allowed on.

Although I have been to Bergamo 24 years ago, I don't remember it being so beautiful and interesting. The Architecture is amazing, with beautiful, grand buildings almost everywhere you look in the city centre and so clean and attended to. Wonderful variety of cafes and restaurants along the main street, with a very effective, regular bus timetable which we used every day to get to and from Citta Alta where we stayed. The train station had regular trains that took us to Milan 45 minutes away and also to the mountains and lakes. Bergamo Citta Alta is also beautiful with many buses going to and fro every 10 / 15 minutes from the city. Food and service in both areas are really very good and although the staff appreciated my Italian attempts, most spoke English. Food and travel were also good value. Recommend train ride to Varenna on Lake Como, absolutely beautiful! Can't wait to go to Bergamo again.

It may just have been the time of year we went (April) but very few restaurants in our immediate area stayed open late. We arrived at one at 9.20pm to be told that they were shortly closing the kitchen! By the time we got to another we were told we would have to chose quickly what we wanted to eat as they were closing soon. So we felt quite rushed to choose and eat. We ate at Vox restaurant on 2 nights which was very nice and they stayed open late.
The nearest supermarket advertised as closing at 9pm but would not let us in for just one item at 8.45pm!
The area was ideal to use as a base to visit other areas; Milan, Lake Garda and Lake Como and also nearby Verona
Citta alta was lovely though although we only went there in the daytime so can't comment on places to eat an evening meal.

Beautiful new town with many shops and cafes.
Beautiful new town with many shops and cafes. And a very interesting old town with 12th-13th century architecture, narrow streets and beautiful churches. It sits on a high hill and has stunning views of the new town.
There are plenty of cafes and pizzerias where you can try delicious pizza and eat a delicious cake.

I truly loved the history and scenery of this city.
I truly loved the history and scenery of this city.
The people were always friendly and welcoming.
The restaurants were very friendly and welcoming as well as being reasonably priced. By the way, the food was delicious too!!
An amazing B&B in Bergamo. We are a family x 6 (2 x adults & 4 x children) 2 bedroom suite was spacious, clean and well appointed. Central location in Citta Alta and the private garden area has table tennis, sun loungers and was the perfect spot for breakfast each morning. The staff were friendly, flexible and provided a top notch service. Recommend the fresh daily breakfast with fresh fruit, meats, breads, cheeses, cereals, yoghurt,, tea and coffee. Highly recommended and will be back. Thank you for an amazing stay in Bergamo.
Anna, the owner was absolutely amazing! Collecting us from Bergamo Airport for a small fee. And also met us after we checked out as my other half left his passport in the room, she drove to train station to drop it to us.
The property is beautiful and very comfortable. In a great location only 20minute walk to train station, which we used to visit Lake Como, Verona and Milan.
Breakfast was put together very well and plenty of choice 😋
We will definately be returning next year to explore some more of italy and see Anna ❤️
The room was big and comfortable, we had to book it last minute and there was only a room for 2 with one double bed, and we were travelling with our 2 year old daughter, so we were 3, but the bed was big enough to sleep comfortably. There is a restaurant at the hotel, we didn't try it as we only were there one night but it had a nice menu and it was very convenient to have it at the hotel.
The location is very good, next to the train station, and to take the bus to the airport and to the old town (Bergamo alto)
The perfect location close to the funicular station and the historical center of Citta Alta as well. The bus stop leaving for the airport and central station is situated just 5 minutes from the place. I appreciate the quality of heating in winter months since it is not usual in Italy. We loved the kitchen, comfort beds and a nespresso coffee machine. The communication with the host was great. I recommend this place for everybody who wants to enjoy Bergamo to the fullest. Thank you.
Le Funi is comfortable, clean and modern yet charming hotel - with delicious breakfast & coffees and fantastic staff (special mention to Jean Luigi and Bladi for the travel tips and lovely chats).
A beautiful hotel in Citta Alta (the high part of the city or Old Town) with spectacular views.
It is a lovely area to spend a few days - narrow winding streets with a variety of unique shops and fabulous authentic restaurants.
Bergamo's walled upper town is a gem, and the hotel is on the narrow main street near the Cathedral. Location couldn't be better - you walk straight out from the front door into one of Italy's classic historical sites. The staff were very friendly and helpful, recommending restaurants, booking taxis etc. The hotel building is historic, the interior quite compact. The breakfasts were very good - delicious coffee.
The location is perfect. Right in the middle of the high street with lots of stores around. The staff were very kind and helpful in arranging a taxi for us to get to the airport as Uber doesn't seem quite reliable in this part of Italy. We really wished we had booked a longer stay here. We didn't get to explore the town much.
Beautiful hilltop hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was delicious. Loved the romantic courtyard with lit up trees and the terrace bar. The family suite was perfect for our family of 4. Easy to reach La Citta Alta and enjoy this green city filled with parks and gardens.
The apartment was really nice. Perfectly fit for a group of friends or family. Mr. Rafaell was very kind, he told us every detail about the house and neighborhood. The place is located very close to the cable line for Citta Alta and the bus station for the Bergamo airport line.
Guest service and communication are over the top. The owner is truly sweet and available to go above and beyond to accommodate any need. Such a genuine person and great amazing accomodation.
The view outside the room was very nice and you are in the heart of Bergamo cittá alta.
Hotel Piazza Vecchia is in a great location in the heart of Bergamo Alta. Our room was spacious with an exceptional bathroom and a view of the countryside and a small terrazza with a small table and chairs for two. The breakfast room, service and the breakfast was very good.
Riccardo and Linda was the most welcoming hosts. The room was great and it was a pleasure staying with them. Make you feel like a family member. So kind!
Riccardo took us from the airport and it was a huge help while we were traveling for the first time in Italy. Thank you!
The hotel is ideally placed in the center of Bergamo, very close to streets with lots of stores and restaurants. Also the funicular to get to Citta Alta is a 10 minute walk away. The small surprises like chocolates on the bed and the welcoming cocktails were a nice touch.
PERFECT place to stay in Bergamo. Fantastic location, very very big spacious room with a huge super comfortable bed. Excellent communication with the host. And the host recommended a restaurant that was top-notch! The best I've been to while in Italy. WONDERFUL STAY!
The apartment is in a great location, very close to the Citta Alta (the old town)! Also, very clean, comfortable and spacious, with the windows facing a lovely garden. The host is very friendly and helpful :) Highly recommended to anyone travelling to Bergamo!
Close enough to the old town of Bergamo and the airport, we did arrive late though as we were traveling from Venice so we did not get to enjoy the surroundings much. But the stuff was very helpful and lovely.
Lovely accommodation right in the heart of the Citta Alta in Bergamo. Friendly and professional staff. Fabulous view of the hills on your way out the door each morning. Would definitely stay here again!
Hospitaly Roberto was a great host and he answered right away when we asked him
The location was good and Bergamo is worthy to wisit Cittá Alta is great place
