Kumarakom Wood Castle Serviced Appartments, hotel in Kumarakom

48 km from Cochin Shipyard, Kumarakom Wood Castle Serviced Appartments is located in Kumarakom and features free WiFi, concierge services and express check-in and check-out.

Lovely small homestay run by a wonderful family, who took care of my every need (and more) as a solo female traveler. Walking distance to the bird sanctuary (a little dilapidated but worth it for the stork colony) and the lakeshore, and perfect location for walking or cycling along various canals (bikes and directions provided for free). Room was comfortable and well equipped. Breakfasts were fabulous too, as well as conversations with the hosts, who built this charming "wooden castle" as a labor of love. Highly recommended!

Cocobay Resort Kumarakom, hotel in Kumarakom

Facing the the Vembanad Lake, the Hotel Cocobay Resort Kumarakom is surrounded by tropical greenery. Accessible only by boat, it features an outdoor pool, a yoga centre, and a restaurant.

Are we in paradise or Eden? We can imagine looking on to the waters a world without humankind other than an occasional fishing boat passing by. We turn our backs and look towards the resort designed in a U shape with an excellent integration of traditional crafted architecture.

Coconut Lagoon Kumarakom- CGH Earth, hotel in Kumarakom

Coconut Lagoon is a heritage backwater destination on the lakeside, a 10-minute boat ride from Kavanatinkara boat landing. Facing Vembanad Lake, it features an outdoor pool.

Perhaps the most scenic and idyllic CGH property, amidst the backwaters and by the lake. We enjoyed a lot to be immersed in the nature.

Mango Kerala Homes, hotel in Kumarakom

located by the side of Meenachil river and 1 km from vembanadu lake, Mango Kerala Homes offers accommodation with a terrace and free WiFi. Complimentary private parking is available on site.

The property is in a beautiful location overlooking the backwaters. Clean and spacious home with everything you need. The owner and her family are especially lovely, her youngest daughter even taught us how to catch a fish in the river. The owner can organise any tours or boat rides you want. River fish is caught in the evening and served for dinner with delicious accompaniments. Breakfast is also very good.

The evening shikara ride was great for our group and was at the right price point - 2000 rupees for 2 hours for 2 families. The bird sanctuary was a big disappointment as there is not much to see and the facilities are also very poor - of the two bird watching towers one is damaged and other does not have a great view. Not many species of birds could be seen or heard, its more of a nature walk than a bird sanctuary.

As soon as we arrived it felt like Paradise.

As soon as we arrived it felt like Paradise. As the gates shut the noise and hustle bustle of an Indian town were left outside. The beautiful old buildings in heritage style, lovely garden with trees and the only sound that of birdsong. It didn’t end there. All the staff from Vaisakh the Manager, Amal the Chef, the lady helping in the kitchen and the lady constantly sweeping the floors and working in the garden were helpful, courteous and always had a cheerful smile. The two men were happy to enter into conversations with us when they were not busy. They also responded immediately when asked for anything. The food was delicious and well cooked but they found it amusing that we couldn’t handle the chillis in some of the dishes. The pool was clean and cool and very welcoming in the heat. We spent a very happy and relaxing week at Brookside Heritage Resort and it was the best place to start our Kerala adventure after a long and arduous journey from the UK. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. We will definitely be back.

We stayed in a property that gave us half-board meals (dinner and breakfast) and had in-house activities such as a sunset boat cruise and an evening cultural show. All this reinforced the kerala theme and made for a wonderful experience.

The backwaters are unique with water lilies and a wide variety of birds that can be viewed in a Shikara at dawn. A houseboat to spend the day and enjoy local cuisine served using fresh fish caught and sold by fisherwomen on the banks is a fabulous experience.

This is a wonderful hotel right on the lake with a lovely swimming pool and calming gardens. As a first time solo traveller it was the perfect place to start my adventures in India. The staff are incredibly warm and welcoming and the free evening boat trips and tea/snacks are very special. Particular thanks to Ayyappan and Sindhu for all their help and kindness and also to the lovely women in the restaurant and the spa (apologies I didn’t catch your names). Highly recommend for families, couples and solo travellers!

Location was very special, right next to Lake Vembanad. Reached via a 5 min canoe ride from the hotel’s car park. Incredibly peaceful spot overlooking the lake watching the bird life ( saw more birds, eagles, egrets, kingfishers than the local Kurmarakom Bird Sanctuary!) All Staff super friendly and helpful. Very nice large, clean pool. Meals good. Wonderful sunsets!

We stayed for two nights. Perfect location, everything was new or looked new. Everything was clean even to Swiss Standards. Also a better AC than other hotels we stayed in during our trip. Food was excellent and they also served breakfast on the balcony after we asked. Got a view of the rising sun with our coffee.
