There was food supported for breakfast and snacks, a telly to watch the footy on while we drank a bottle of wine. The Lough was nearby and I swam in the morning.

The Workhouse was interesting to see but we did not tour.

The Workhouse was interesting to see but we did not tour. The Castle was not visible from a close drive-by - one had to proceed down a drive to see. Enjoyed seeing all the cruisers docked along the Shannon. Restaurants sparse, but found a very fine pub to watch a football match. Precious little activity in town while we were there. It was a well-situated stop-off between The Burren and our next stop in the Boyne Valley.

Lovely town & the people were so friendly.

Lovely town & the people were so friendly. There could have been a bit more tourist shops to buy some gifts to take back, if you don't have a car to get into Galway city or other towns to buy these things it was a little lacking in that area.

There is an excellent Indian and Italian carry out restaurant in the centre of the town. There is also an Aldi in the town. Also Portumna is close to beautiful countryside and forest parks. We were visiting Flowerhill Equestrian Centre. For horse lovers this is an excellent facility, with a fabulous cross country course. We also visited Ballinasloe which is another lovely town, about 30 km away.

The swim area was our big attraction, but we also were surprised at the walks, playgrounds, variety of supermarkets and cafes/restaurants, in general, it had everything you would want and central in relation to days out elsewhere if needed. But the weather was great that week too which helps a lot no matter where you are. Portumna house is run voluntarily and the people on the gate and in the house are very friendly and welcoming with lots of information. Don't skip a visit here, especially with the gardens in bloom. Overall, Portumna gets a thumbs up from this family

Duplex is very spacious. Everything needed for self catering including dishwasher and washing machine. We found it much better for two u10's than a hotel. Staff were really helpful and responsive when needed, particularly Ann was helpful with suggestions for places of interest. Beautiful lake within 2kms for jumping off the pier. Lifeguards on duty too. Centrally placed to go to Salthill (amusements & beach), fanore beach (surfing) and all water activities around Lough Derg. Max drive was a little over an hour.

Location looked a bit messy since there is a burned out building and re-construction around the parking lot, but unit was fine. Very convenient to the town center--restaurants, attractions--castle etc. Garden of castle was best on whole trip! Great location to use as a base for the region--access to the Shannon River nearby, marina, and highways to reach Galway and the coast.

We were greeted by the owner - amazing generous and kind women. Brilliant advice, warm smile, plenty of energy, extremely efficient. Meticulously clean B&B, place to sit in the evening near the fireplace. Breakfast - very tasty fruit salad with blackberries with Greek yoghurt, hearty Irish breakfast. And again - always ready to help, to advice.

Very friendly couple run the B&B, we were attending a party in the town of Portumna and there is a path from the town right to the house so it's very safe to walk. We were running a bit late when we arrrived but the couple kindly offered to drop us into the town. Ideally situated Great breakfast Would highly recommend

    - Amazing B&B with super friendly owner - Perfect location at the edge of the main street in Portumna - Comfy beds (although the double bed doesn't really feel like a double, so small! Luckily we had 2 beds) - Amazing breakfast - Very clean, spacious enough and good bathroom Would definately recommend!

We recently stayed at Oaklodge B&B for one night, and it was perfect. Our room was spotless. Mary, the owner, was so nice and friendly. She had loads of information for us about where to go in the area etc. Breakfast was lovely. Would definitely recommend staying here for anyone going to Portumna.

I had a fabulous restful stay with the hosts Denis and Ita. It's not easy to find a place that allows dogs. But mine was warmly welcomed. The cottage is beautiful and the setting fabulous. I highly recommend this little gem in Portumna.

The location was excellent for our base and for the beautiful village of Portumna itself. While we were sitting on the balcony at night, wild deer came up to the fenced off area and loads of dragonflies in the morning time.

Location was good, close to the village but does feel a bit like a halfway house. Location was not good enough to justify the cost. Will look elsewhere for the next time I'm in Portumna.
