I stayed in the city for a couple of days to shop and eat, highly recommend Tunjungan Plaza, Pakuwon Centre and CiputraWorld. Drove out to Mount Bromo and Ijen Crater for the next couple days too. Overall an amazing, well rounded experience. Surabaya has everything to offer and the traffic is also fantastic! Be aware of the period you go in as I went during Ramadan and nightlife/spas/bars were closed in hotels. It's easy to get around and people are generally kind and patient although they might not speak English. Food wise it's got a lot of carbohydrates/oil/sodium but you just HAVE to try Bakso and Bakmi. I would not recommend eating Beatus crab if your party is less than 2.

It's a great city and much less hectic than Jakarta. The food was amazing and the people are as friendly as always. The taxis are easy to get and if you stay right in the middle of the city, getting to anywhere is a breeze. It was a pity that the Sampoerna Museum was closed due to Covid measures.

I didn't see much of Surabay: Just The place I stayed, The Submarine Monument, Chinatown, Old Town, strolling through local living areas plus a walk at river side. it's a city with a lot of contrasts - lots of impressive buildings, but also very local and dirty aareas and dirty areas. To stroll arround is easy and peaceful. Nobody really approached me in a difficult way. To take Taxis or Bikes via Grab-App is easy and affordable as well. the quickest way to get arround is by using a Grab-Bike due to the lot of traffic jams in Surabaya. I was looking for Chinatwon, but it virtually didn't really exist compared to Chinatowns in other big cities. But due to short available time, I was not able to explore more. I assume there are a lot of intersting places arround. By the way - Food places are many and ther is a fantastic hiuge varity of very tasteful food available. Malls I didn't enter, as they don't mirror the original Indonesia much

It’s cleaner, less polluted, less crowded than Jakarta. Many trees make the city more beautiful. Great food. Some really beautiful mosques! I learned about the improvements that have been made to the city in the last 20 years… some great initiatives! Not a ton to do, but ok for a short stay, and hard to find information about local activities. Grab is good in this city. I would not recommend for solo female travelers…. I’ve lived in Asia for 10 years and never had to deal with so much harassment from men… yikes and yuck. The consistency of this issue is alarming.AAnonymous - 8.0Scored 8.0
