When you stay in Pangkalpinang, it’s close to the airport...
When you stay in Pangkalpinang, it’s close to the airport and sea port so it’s easy to stay at for the first time. You can also easily access and explore the local restaurants and stores that are located in the city. The Pasir Padi beach is a good and must place to visit when you are in this city, but to see other places in Bangka that are very important and remarkable too, you have to rent a car, with driver and fuel to visit other places like Kaolin lake 70km south, Pesona and Parai beaches around 50kms north, or other places. You can search for such rental providers on the internet, and contact them on WhatsApp to agree on the price and trip itinerary.
I was staying with my friend in an hotel with no breakfast meal in our deal, but we ate local food in a restaurant in front of the hotel, and we tried another restaurant which is also nearby as we went walking.
We didn’t use the local taxis/public transportation, because we didn’t speak Bahasa Indonesia and we didn’t know how we are going to communicate with the drivers, so we used Grab App, as it was easy for us. Also, we think that people keep giving us tourists prices (higher) prices, and we wanted to avoid that.
When we arrived at the airport to this city, we wanted to order Grab, but we didn’t find, and then we found one but he didn’t want to stop for us; it seems that local regulations or presence of local taxis prevent them from providing this service at this place. However, we knew the price range for the trip from there to our hotel, and we we are able to negotiate with the local taxi who offered us a ride with higher price, to get the same price as we saw in Grab. The issue of tourist prices, and the issue of trying to stop services like Grab and Gojek that make it easier for everyone to find a ride and communicate, are not only found in Pangkalpinang but in other places too, and it’s quite annoying.
Breakfast was so-so. Choices of food were limited. However, it was like ordering food in food-court and we cannot choose the amount but was served by the staff across the table (could be due to COVID19 precautions).
Location of hotel was far from the main city/town...but near to airport.
