Small historic town, that is the ideal for travelling to Harris. There are a few historic sites to see but some of them were not open when we visited. Sunday very quiet with nothing open or available to do. Great place to go for a relaxing retreat.

The shops in Stornoway were super with a good range of things to choose from. We visited the butcher, the charity shops, the deli, the new Co-op supermarket, tweed shops, Tourist Information and Taigh Ceilidh where we received a very warm welcome.

We were very lucky with the weather given the time of year. Stunning beaches and very interesting historical sites. Enjoyed eating out and had excellent meals. Really helpful information from Jessica in the tourism centre and pleasant friendly locals who were keen to share their knowledge of the islands

the hotel is fine the staff are good prices a bit high but that is standard for the island. my only problem is a slight health issue and with the very steep stairs and the rooms all upstairs i found this a problem but the hotel is ok.

Don't bother with Stornoway itself ( apart from the castle).

Don't bother with Stornoway itself ( apart from the castle). The shopping is poor and it's very difficult to eat out on a Sunday or Monday. Most restaurants are closed! SO BOOK if you can !( We don't think they want to encourage tourists!) Do go to the Black House village and the standing stones. Really interesting. We were looking for wildlife but it was minimal. We were only there 2 full days but wished we were back on Uist!!

This is a really great place - spotlessly clean and extremely comfortable. Yen is a great host / hostess and very helpful. Bedroom was v comfortable and the shower was great. Breakfast was also v good, served in guest lounge. Tea and coffee constantly available with fresh milk - none of those awful milk sachets that I hate. The location is a few miles from Stornoway but only about a 10 min drive. Its also on a bus route. Highly recommended

This is a lovely B&B on a quiet side street in the heart of Stornoway. Minutes to walk anywhere in town. Lovely room in a building a few doors away from the main building. This location has a full communal kitchen and lounge area. Ownership changed while we were there and both former and new owners are lovely and super helpful. Breakfasts delicious!

Good location with Harbour and Castle view. Reception staff welcoming and helpful as were the restaurant staff. Food was excellent if a little pricey but sufficient choices available to avoid ‘splashing out’. Room was clean and comfortable and in keeping with this period hotel. Good breakfast menu and willingness to adjust individual choices if required.

Location was perfect for me, a social trip so everything I needed was there, comfortable bed, continental breakfast isn't for everyone but plenty coffee, suited me, it was a lot more pleasant to stay there than in some hotels and cheaper too, the host made sure I was ok and if I needed anything I only had to ask, put her trust in you to look after the place

The breakfast was excellent, and the hospitality was warm and generous (lovely homemade scones and jam). It was great to have a comfortable guest lounge with small fridge and a range of books. Everywhere I needed to get to in Stornoway was within 5-10 minutes walk. And the weather was amazing!

Lovely modern decor, great cooking/living area, spotlessly clean and comfy beds. Can’t say enough good things about it. 10 minute walk from town center and views across the water-loved it and such great value. If we’re back in Stornoway we’ll definitely return to Salmon House.
