So much history. Loved the buildings, the motte and bailey castle, the priory remains in the park, the independent shops and cafés. Everything is within walking distance. Great to have a railway station and Brighton only 9 miles away. Superb views and walks over the South Downs.

Interesting county town.
Interesting county town. A few things to do inside there (eg castle and priory, Depot cinema by the station). Or excellent transport links to coast (Seaford preferable to Newhaven unless you want to catch the ferry to Dieppe) and Brighton of course. The self contained area of Downs to the east are my favourite. Quieter than the main range of the Downs to the south so you can just roam around and enjoy the peace. Or you can walk along the river as far as Newhaven but this can be quite muddy when it's been raining. Beautiful flat walk though if you go when it's dry, or don't mind mud!

I lived near Lewes from 2000 to 2005 so know the area. Am fond of the Riverside area with its eating places, also the High Street. Perhaps not a huge amount going on, and perhaps the "Information Centre" could be
done up/revamped a little more, but the town is in an excellent central location for a holiday spent exploring locally.

Lewis is an old town full of interesting history, lots of old buildings and of course the castle that's always worth the walk up the hill, don't worry if you're not too fit as you can get a local bus to the top of the hill. Lots of wonderful pubs and cafes in the town centre along with some nice restaurants. The town is surrounded by stunning scenery all around.

I stay in Lewes frequently for visits to Glyndebourne.
I stay in Lewes frequently for visits to Glyndebourne. The local taxi firm (GMC Taxis) are very good and are prompt when picking up at the arranged time both to get to Glyndebourne and to return.
The town itself has much to offer with interesting shops and historic places including the Castle.
Hotel accommodation is very limited since the closure of The Shelleys and Pelham House. Parking is expensive

LEWES IS A BEAUTIFUL PLACE!
LEWES IS A BEAUTIFUL PLACE!
HOWEVER DO NOT STAY AT PREMIER INN !!!!!!!!!! THEY ARE A TOTAL JOKE AND NOTHING LESS THAN DAYLIGHT THIEVES WHO NEARLY DESTROYED MY WEDDING WITH 2 MISTAKES ON OUR BOOKINGS.
The Dorset on the other hand is a Lovely place to stay and would recommend it to anyone whishing to stay in Lewes.
Location, next to Southease station is really handy (easy travel to Brighton, Lewes, etc). Having free parking so close too was also useful (my friends travelled by public transport, but I drove). There's a big kitchen with everything you need for self catering. The beds are comfortable but they have a vinyl cover and I got very hot in the night. The reception staff were so friendly and amazingly helpful - I can't praise them enough.
Loved my short stay at the White Hart, wonderful location in the High Street of Lewes. Old quirky Hotel with lots of character, some of the furnishing are a bit tired but all adds to the charm of the hotel. Looked very festive with decorations and log fire. Nice breakfast lots of choice. Great to have a swimming pool and sauna which I used. staff great welcoming and helpful.
We really enjoyed our stay at Marshlands. Everything is of a very high quality and comfort with very thoughtful additions to make it a pleasant all round experience. The food supplied for breakfast was quite spectacular with more than enough for our stay. Ginny and Henry are very friendly and helpful hosts. We plan to stay again next time we visit Lewes. Highly recommended.
Lazslo was very helpful on arrival and departure and all in between. \There are no services at the hotel, so hard to comment, but if you wanted a drink or meal, you would have to bring your own or call one of the food delivery people, This was highlighted at the time of booking though. I assume this is due to the current staffing crisis in the hospitality industry
We stayed at the property for 2 nights and the bed was very comfortable resulting in a good nights sleep. The room and bathroom were spotless. The host were warm and friendly. The location was fantastic in the heart of Lewes and only minutes to walk for breakfast with plenty of choice. Lewes is a great place to visit and we will definitely stay there again.
This old hotel is first up a great pub. The antique timber bar is a wonderful piece if work. The staff are friendly, and the beer is good. Our room was spacious and comfortable as well as being quiet.
The Dorset was perfectly placed for the start of our nine day walk on the old pilgrim way to Canterbury. A goodbreakfast set us on our way.
absolutely beautiful spot, quite absolutely everything you could need in the pod and outside, fire pit/bbq is a total vibe. excellent communication in advance of arrival. the pods come with your own outside bathrooms which is only accessible to you with a key and is more well finished and clean than half the hotels I’ve stayed in
I stopped over very briefly between two shifts I was working in Lewes. I had a disturbed night of sleep due to snoring (I was in a dorm room), but that is hardly the fault of YHA. The bathroom facilities were excellent, and I enjoyed a hot shower with good water pressure, which was much appreciated.
Location very central
It had parking which is a massive bonus for visitors to Lewes
Spacious, clean and comfortable
Lots of lovely little additions ie biscuits, tea coffee, toiletries etc.
Very well equipped little dining/kitchen area
Jo very discreet but there if you needed her and helpful
Absolutely lovely pub and hotel. The food was delicious (both the pub menu and the breakfast included in the room price), the staff was terrific (they make you feel right at home from the get-go) and the hotel room was just gorgeous!
It really exceeded my expectations!
Perfect location in the centre of Lewes. Car park around the corner with free overnight parking. Spotless showeroom, nice decor with cosy bedroom perfect for me on my own. Tea, coffee and biscuits supplied. Would very happily stay again.
Service was fantastic from end to finish and the inn is both quaint and elegant!
The breakfast was exceptional; delicious array of pastries and dishes on both the buffet a menu to order from.
Our room was very comfortable and clean
The apartment was 5 minutes walk from the railway station right in the centre of Lewes. A bus stop and supermarket were about 400 m away. There was an excellent restaurant just across the road. The location would be hard to beat.
For the price you can’t beat the location and amenities. Bread, crumpets, butter/jam, milk and cereal provided were fantastic and the room is bright and clean and has everything needed for a few days around Lewes.
perfectly proportioned! So delighted to have a cooking space whilst away. Loved the little touches such as the pictures on the wall in the bedroom (see attached).
A true gem. Fantastic cottage located very close to centre of town (Lewes). Clean, comfortable, with a lovely conservatory and very comfortable master bedroom.
