Corsewall Lighthouse Hotel, hotel in Kirkcolm

Featuring free WiFi and a restaurant, Corsewall Lighthouse Hotel offers accommodations in Kirkcolm, 8.7 mi from Stranraer. Free private parking is available on site. Every room has a flat-screen TV.

We picked this establishment because it was the only one that had rooms for those of us that are disabled (first floor). The inn is remote but is in a beautiful setting. We stayed in a slightly remote house which we really loved. Large windows in the living area looking over the rocky seashore made for a serene morning coffee scene. We also really enjoyed the 5 course meal served in the restaurant in the lighthouse.

Briar Brae Bed & Breakfast, hotel in Kirkcolm

Brier Brae Bed & Breakfast is set in Stranraer on the sea front, with views over Loch Ryan. The property is located 5.6 mi from Portpatrick and 6.8 mi from the ferry port.

This is a comfortable old home on the water with lovely views. Brendan, our host, was helpful and available. He made us dinner reservations for the night of our arrival. The bed and pillows were comfortable. The shower worked very well with on demand hot water. We had two different breakfasts, both delicious. There’s a nice walking path out the front door along the water’s edge and less than a mile to town center. I highly recommend staying at Briar Brae.

Thornbank House, hotel in Kirkcolm

A 8-minute walk from Stranraer Beach in Stranraer, Thornbank House offers accommodations with access to a hot tub, fitness room, and steam room.

Room was very comfortable and well appointed; TV needed a wee bit of attention but then worked perfectly (previous guest had been fiddling with it!); breakfast was one of the best cooked breakfasts I have enjoyed when staying away from home - freshly cooked to order and very tasty! A big 10/10 - eggselent!

Whilst it is a very remote location and you are isolated...

Whilst it is a very remote location and you are isolated from other places within walking distance, there is a costal path and tiny beaches to explore. We were staying for one night which was perfect, be mindful that there isn’t any other options for food eateries, the food at the hotel is lovely and prices for a 5 course meal super at £40, the main courses were a little high at approximately £18 and a little heavy if you just want a sandwich or a light bite for your evening meal, but fine dining wearing walking clothes was such a treat! breakfast was included and really hearty. The staff are super attentive and friendly, the hotel is clean and well looked after, very traditional setting and furniture so not a modern setting if that is what you are after. We wanted for nothing, everything was catered for, our room was upgraded to a larger room and was very traditional and comfortable. This is still a working lighthouse, which is incredible to sit and watch the lighthouse in action once the sun begins to set. There is also a upstairs terrace you can watch the sun set from (but no seating) and one of the rooms has a private terrace area (with seating). Really loved our stay and would highly recommend it, especially for the experience of staying at a remote lighthouse
