The hotel was extremely comfortable and a lovely base from which to explore the northern mainland and the islands of Yell and Unst. A car is essential for getting around but parking at the hotel isn't always easy. We enjoyed meals at Frankie's Fish and Chips, the most 'northerly fish and chip restaurant in the UK'! Breakfasts in the hotel were excellent but we had to ask for smaller portions. However, the evening meals were disappointing. The owners were friendly and attentive and engaged with all their guests.

Beautiful place amazing scenery, friendly people We love loved the St Magnus Bay Hotel. Set in the most gorgeous surroundings it was idyllic. The staff and owners (Andrea and Paul) could not have made us feel anymore welcome, their kindness and generosity made our stay something we will never forget. We ate in the hotel every night as the menu was superb and food was excellent. The room was amazing and had stunning views. On the Friday We returned from getting married and were greeted with good wishes, drinks and our room decorated in celebration of our day. We will treasure the memories of our stay and we can’t wait to return next year. Thanks to everyone for making our stay so wonderful and unforgettable

Hillswick is a hamlet of a few buildings. There is no commerce here (restaurants, shops, gas station) for those services you will need to drive some distance to a nearby town. The area is very rural with homes scattered over the hills and valleys with more sheep than people. The scenery is breathtaking and there are ample walking/hiking opportunities.
