The Highland Club, hotel in Fort Augustus

Boasting mountain views, The Highland Club provides accommodation with water sports facilities, a fitness centre and a garden, around 26 km from Urquhart Castle. The property has lake and garden...

It was an amazing experience. We never knew what it would be like to stay in the old Abbey but the combination of the old (history, beautiful architecture, stunning views of the lake and the surrounding landscapes) and the new (neat, modern facilities, access to the pool and sauna) was exceptional. We loved how big our apartment was. Our daughter had her own room and bathroom and we all had a separate living room with majestic high ceilings and a big kitchen. We also got a lovely hamper as a welcome gift, which was very handy when didn’t feel like braving the cold to go out to buy a snack.

Homestead House, Fort Augustus, hotel in Fort Augustus

Offering a garden and garden view, Homestead House, Fort Augustus is set in Fort Augustus, 49 km from Glen Nevis and 27 km from Urquhart Castle.

Location was perfect for Highland exploring, parking was secluded and safe for the 3 motorbikes we had with us and we didn't feel the need to security chain them while we were there. The house was very roomy and comfortable for 3 people with a great sized kitchen, roomy bedrooms and plenty of space to have some time to yourself

Situated at the end of Loch Ness with a steep set of locks which form the start of the Caledonian Canal, Fort Augustus is a must visit destination if you are in the area. There is a good sized car park and an excellent choice of places to eat. We had an excellent meal at the Chinese restaurant. Lots of opportunities for boat trips along the loch and some nice shops for souvenirs.

We stayed here only one night whilst doing the Great Glen Way although it seemed like a beautiful place and there seemed to be many other things to do in the area. Lots of options for dinner (compared with other towns along the way).

Fort Augustus is a great spot to attractions in the area and easy drive for location upto 2hours away, like Glencoe, Fort William, Glenfinnin Viaduct, Aviemore ski fields, Urquart Castle, Inverness, Skye. Cruising or walk along Loch Ness are brilliant. The town is gorgeous with many good eateries within walking distance or a short drive away. Locals are friendly, inviting and engaging. I would live there if I could!

Didn't see much of Fort Augustus really.

Didn't see much of Fort Augustus really. Walked around a bit in the evening when we arrived. Only there for 2 days and used as a base for trips around Loch Ness - Urquart Castle, Culloden Battlefield. Which were all great. Arrived on a Friday night after 8pm in early November. Only places still serving food were a very expensive Chinese restaurant in a hotel and a place called The Moorings which appeared to be a kebab shop that dabbled in everything else. Unfortunately, they should stick to one thing and really try to nail that. We ordered the worst eat out Pizzas we've ever eaten - worse than home brand supermarket frozen and they were very expensive - £15+ each. Even the local chip shop was closed, at 8.30pm on a Friday! OK, we didn't come for the late night fast food. Bring your own or eat a good lunch.

Much quieter than Inverness and a delightful pretty village with good pubs and recommend The Bothy. Take a short walk to the very bottom of Loch Ness. Also take a drive down the much quieter and superbly more scenic route down the east side of Loch Ness on B862/B852. Fascinating to see the canal locks in the village.

The apartment is situated in an old convent. I absolutely loved the ambiance and traditional interior (with modern bathroom and nice kitchen). It's a personal preference, though -I travelled with my father, who prefers modern hotels, and he was less charmed. Hosts were helpful and friendly. Apartment was clean and comfortable. There was a great little info guide on places to eat and explore in the area, as well as practical instructions (e.g. on how to control the heating and where to put our rubbish) and guidelines (e.g. on pets).

This was an elegant hotel with historic character. It had the feeling of a warm hunting lodge. The sitting area with overstuffed chairs and lovely dining area made it a unique experience. The hotel's location is a short walk. to the center of Fort Augustus, which is an interesting little town allowing for a choice of gift shops, attractions and restaurants. The breakfast, served in the beautiful dining room, was very good and the host of the hotel was gracious. We were very happy we stayed in this lovely property.

this was quite a strange but wonderful apartment, set in a converted boarding school and Abbey. apartment as well appointed with a substantial lounge kitchen area separate bathroom and comfortable bedroom. There was a beautiful relatively school swimming pool and spa area a window looking out over the highlands. The situation is right at the south-western end of Loch Ness. It is also right on the Caledonian canal and the sequence of locks which is the main feature of Fort Augustus

The location and cottage were great for a relaxing break, Loch Ness was in sight from our cottage window, everything you need within walking distance. Fort Augustus is certainly worth a visit and is ideally situated to explore the area, excellent boat trips leave from the town and there are lovely areas for walkers and climbers to spend some quality time. I will be returning to Fort Augustus later this year hopefully. Everyone in the town were very welcoming and friendly.

From the moment we booked in to the moment we booked out, the couple that run the hotel were always cheerful and very helpful. We were greeted with tea, coffee and biscuits upon arrival. And the breakfast was enough to keep you going for most of the day, we were even offered croissants to take away for our journey. Would definitely recommend and stay again.

Very modern and comfortable and perfectly located for exploring the Loch Ness Area. A good breakfast can be purchased in the cafe downstairs and there is The Moorings for evening meal or a takeaway just 5 minutes away. Situated right in the centre of Fort Augustus, the accommodation is easy to find as it is right on the canal.

Fantastic location with less than a 2 minute walk to the center of Fort Augustus at the foot of Loch Ness. Breakfast was included in the price and it was also excellent, buffet style meaning you could go back for more should you wish. All the staff were extremely helpful and friendly and I’d definitely stay again!
