Room was pleasant enough but not value at the £99pn rate, the Sunday rate of £60 was more like the level it should be.

Chester-Le-Street has had a poor reputation for along time...
Chester-Le-Street has had a poor reputation for along time but that is the past and the new Chester-Le-Street is improving significantly. Worth a visit and definitely if you get a chance to stay overnight at Lumley Castle. Real value for money and food is exceptional. Highly recommended just for the breakfast and dinner.

Very good value for money, breakfast included.
Very good value for money, breakfast included. Room was clean and the bed comfortable.
Only irritating issue was the bed, which had a large frame! Resulting in bang on the knee or, if avoiding it, a bang on the head from the tv :-)

My husband and I always book into the Lambton Worm when we visit family in Durham and look forward to staying there very much. There is a very friendly atmosphere, quirky furniture and decor and the food is excellent. We find it great value for money and very relaxing.

Beautiful main building.
Beautiful main building. Our room was small and a litle shabby but for the money and the location it was worth it.
Problem is food and wine. We wanted bar food. £18 for an ok burger with 10 chips but £20 for fish and chips - tiny bit of fish- is absurd. Wine over priced (no glass under £9???) Sort a sesnibly priced menu out please (oh and it took 50 minutes from odering).
Reason I haven't given a worse rating is breakfast which was excellent. Thank you for that.

The Bank Coffee Shop!
The Bank Coffee Shop! Had lovely coffee & a very tasty toasted cheese scone, which I find very hard to get right for me in most coffee shops. Also had a choice of other savoury dishes & home baked cakes. Very good prices & the staff very friendly & obliging, also very clean & bright!
The Lambton Hotel/Bar:- Very family friendly, with a good choice of well priced meals! Had a lovely breakfast there and good coffee too on the Sunday!
Will definately like to visit Chester-le-Street again in better weather, as there’s more to see than you realise, was also a good butchers in the arcade, that I would like to go to, when I next need to stock up on meat! May even stay over night at the Lambton!

Not a place to go for disabled people, and very very expensive, the breakfast you could have built a house with it ,it was all over cooked, they had double booked people for evening meals so the first night we had to go elsewhere,I ordered a surprise pack to be in our room on arrival of a box of chocolates, flowers and Prosecco that I payed for in advance none was there ,I was told I didn’t order it and had to prove it ,so I had to go into Chester-Le-Street to get a copy of my bank statement, that proved I had ,so they sent to our room two bars of chocolate and a mini teddy bear and said the bottle would follow ,well needless to say the surprise wasn’t a surprise, and we were celebrating our wedding anniversary.so overall it was not a good experience we took them back to reception and didn’t even get as much as a complementary coffee ,so no we definitely will not be going back

Fantastic hotel, comfy beds, clean and spacious rooms. Breakfast was just fantastic- arguably the best breakfast we've had in a long while. The pub food was also brilliant (we had pizzas).
The staff were very friendly, always smiling, and particularly helpful when we needed a travel cot and they didn't have one so the staff went out and bought one for us. So helpful. We really appreciated that so thank you! Would 100% recommend.
The staff were very friendly and really happy and eager to help, the breakfast was superb and the drinks were great value for money too. The room was huge, really clean and had a working electric shower and all the tea/coffee/hot chocolate facilities you'd want. The bed was enormous and very comfortable. Overall a lovely hotel that I would definitely recommend to others and would stay at again if I ever returned to the area.
The staff at the Lumley Hotel were exceptionally friendly and everyone had a smile. The hotel was very clean and comfortable. The food was lovely and I felt the servers went beyond our expectations to make us feel special while dining. I would like to give Nathen and Ed a huge Thank You for all they did for us making our stay extra special and making us feel at home.
We have stayed in other historical hotels and have often been disappointed. However, Castle Lumley did not disappoint. It retains its old charm as well as being a very comfortable place to stay. The staff were welcoming and helpful and the Castle an authentic piece of history. We would recommend this hotel is you want to step back in history.
Absolutely amazing, immaculately clean and the staff were amazing.
I work in customer care and travel the country staying in hotels etc and I must say the staff here are 2nd to none.
A credit to the establishment, friendly and helpful beyond expectations.
I would like to recruit them to work for my company if I was allowed... 5 plus stars
We loved everything about this hotel! We were hoping for an "authentic" castle experience for our honeymoon, and our state room did not disappoint. The decor in our room, including a "secret" door, was incredible. Staff was wonderful. We also had both dinner and breakfast in the on-site restaurant, and they were delicious.
An absolutely stunning hotel. Staff very friendly and room was beautiful and cozy.
Didn’t have evening meal at hotel, but did have breakfast and could not fault it. It was perfect. Staff were friendly and the setting was stunning
I will definitely return but for longer next time.
Recommended accommodation! We stayed here for our visit to the Beamish museum, that was easily reachable from the hotel. The room was cozy and silent, notwithstanding the road close by. We really enjoyed the restaurant's food, at both breakfast and dinner.
scenery and views. lovely choice of breakfast. reception staff was a guy who was helpful as well as very friendly. parking right up in the castle. room was great with lovely complimentary snacks and chocolate. lovely hotel all round.
Told me at 1300 on the arrival day couldn’t have the property. Totally unacceptable had to find another hotel in Chester le street at a further cost . I’d never recommend anyone stop here after my experience. A shambles
