The Walnut Tree, hotel in Castle Cary

Located in Yeovil, 42 km from Longleat Safari Park, The Walnut Tree provides accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a terrace and a restaurant.

This is a good value hotel in a great location for those visiting local attractions (Fleet Air Arm Museum, lots of nearby National Trust properties etc.) or heading Westwards on A303. I assume it was initially the village pub but now more of a Restaurant/Bar with Rooms. I did not eat in the Restaurant as I had made prior arrangements in nearby Ilchester. Room was comfortable with nice bed and a desk. Nice quiet village setting but not far from main arterial road.

Lovely quaint Somerset town with good shops for size of town. Parking not good though as limited to 2 hrs Mon-Sat 8am-6pm unless you want to walk from a car park 10 mins away. Even then not a 24 hr parking.

Beautiful village setting in rural Somerset.

Beautiful village setting in rural Somerset. Must be a driver to get around, although there are very basic amenities on the doorstep. If not eating out within the village you need to have a plan of where you are going to eat (google and trip advisor are your friend here). Supermarkets are about 5-7 miles away so you need to have a plan for this kind of trip.

Its a lovely area the locals were all friendly tho' I admit I've worked on a farm all my life and had a lot in common with many of them, nevertheless you would struggle to find a better place to relax

it is a pretty little town. i love the hill behind the high street. next time i go i’ll make sure i’ll visit on a weekday and saturday (there’s a market). i live in london and visiting a town like castle cary is very special. it’s quiet with beautiful cottages. i really love going up and down the hills, seeing the lovely town and spotting the tor from the top of the hill. it’ll be lovely to ride a bike and go to other town near by.

Castle Cary was form our trips around the county a typical Somerset town with easy access to other places such as Shepton Mallet and Wells. however like so many other places people/businesses were recovering from COVID but don't let that deter you. If travelling from the west avoid the A303 at all costs!

We truly enjoyed our stay at Hues - Castle Cary. Our room was bright, cosy and beautiful! Everything is so well thought through with lovely details that made our stay very enjoyable. The bed was comfortable and we slept so well! Bathroom was very modern, clean and with an amazing view from the window. There was even a birthday banner in our room (I mentioned to Louise that it was my husband’s birthday). Such a lovely touch! We enjoyed hot drinks kindly provided in the kitchen area.

Plum cottage is a lovely period cottage in a fantastic quiet location in the centre of Castle Cary. Access was easy and all information very helpful. The cottage has been very nicely decorated in keeping with its cottage style and age and is very clean and well maintained. The courtyard garden is pretty and a lovely sun trap, where we enjoyed sitting at any time of day. Communication with the owner was pleasant and a very prompt response.

Avalon is owned and operated by a friendly, elegant couple who keep their home in immaculate condition. It is spacious, well appointed, has high ceilings, picturesque views of a garden, farm fields and Castle Cary. Frances prepared wonderful breakfasts with tasty options. The house is next to Ellesmere House another B&B. They are virtually the same in size. While also nice, I would return to Avalon House as my first choice.

We were visiting friends in the area so the location suited us from that point of view. The cottage was comfortable, quiet and cosy. The kitchen was well equipped. The oven was not working during our visit, the owners were aware and had provided an air fryer as a substitute which was good. The location is close to Castle Cary railway station which was a plus point.

Hues was easy to find in Castle Cary, and the instructions to get into the apartment were straightforward. The room was great, clean and well appointed. The breakfast room was well equipped, clean and well stocked. The concept of three unique rooms/apartments with a communal breakfast room works so well. It was a great base for me for the 4 nights I was there.

The bedroom has 5 star hotel quality bed linen and soft, thick bathroom towels. The separate living room gives the option for watching TV or working independently if the other guest wishes to rest. Frances is an excellent host and was most helpful in restaurants and local attraction recommendations.

The George Hotel is very pet-friendly, there are nice country walks around the back as well. Charming old „Pup Inn“ with lots of character. Our room was out toward the court yard pup full of happy people (pleasant). A full English Breakfast was included in the price, very nice surprise.

Absolute gem! House was beautifully presented and super clean. Chris responded really quickly to my questions and could even give recommendations outside of Castle Cary for things to do. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again or at another of Chris’ other properties.
