The road (4 miles) to Bampton from Shap is extremely narrow with few passing places here and there and has to be driven with great care because you can meet buses, lorries and farm vehicles. The road (2 miles) from Bampton to Haweswater is equally narrow and has to be driven with great care.

Haweswater Hotel is miles from anywhere so a lot of driving needed , as for all the Lakes I presume. Perfect if you want peace and quiet, great views and wonderful walks. Bampton village itself is very small with few facilities.

The area is quiet, accessed by narrow lanes all worth exploring . The hamlet of Bampton sold the cheapest petroleum for miles. Locals were delightful. Be prepared to travel for 30-50 minutes to reach other key locations in The Lakes.

If like me you are not a seasoned walker take the lower walk at the bottom of the reservoir which snakes around a peninsula and gives unbelievable views. Eat dinner at the Hotel during your stay the food and services are top quality. Weather permitting take time to have a drink on the seats at the front/side of the Hotel and just enjoy the peace.

Excellent base location for walkers who want to get straight out on to the fell. Haweswater and the surrounding hills are a perfect jumping off point for those wanting to join high street and other ranges in the lakes.

Lovely drive to a stunning location.
Lovely drive to a stunning location. Takes you to a peaceful relaxing place in a lovely building. Great staff, beautiful decor and gorgeous suites.
Food was excellent and service was perfect. Enjoyed every moment and wish we had stayed longer x
Great view out the front of the hotel (and probably the rooms in front if you’re lucky enough to nab one!). The restaurant was spectacular — the food and service was great. We both loved how the Art Deco theme in the hotel carries throughout everything. We also both love the historic photos and things from the area before the dam was built—very interesting! Lastly, the music was fantastic as well — it set such a romantic atmosphere for the whole building (but that’s speaking as someone who really loves music from the 40s and 50s!).
We were impressed by the home from home feel when we entered the hotel.
The Manager was on hand welcoming guests which was nice.
We ate breakfast on both mornings and found everything to be nicely served and tasty, also the staff were very pleasant and nothing was too much trouble for them.
The background music was very relaxing and the views from the hotel were stunning
One of the best hotels we ever stayed at. It's very remote but we loved it! Right by the lake, amazing interior design, fantastic food and friendly staff. It rained heavily during the entire duration of our stay but it didn't matter as we enjoyed sitting by the fire looking out to the calm lake.. we hope to be back soon to do some proper hikes which looked amazing!
The location, the views, the lovely dining room and tasty breakfast.
The wooden staircase and general feeling of history in the hotel was lovely.
The bed was very comfortable and the balcony off our room was lovely to relax with a glass of wine.
All the staff were very friendly and helpful, apart from the older man who was at reception when we arrived.
Could not fault this place in anyway. Food was fabulous, room was beautiful, views from our room and hotel were amazing. Staff helpful and cheerful. In all honesty for a night away and some piece and quiet this is the place to stay. Loved every mionute and will certainly return. Thanks Haweswater Hotel!
Pretty much everything. Lovely hotel in a beautiful spot with art-deco furnishings and amazing food. Also if you’re up for it, there’s an 11 mile walk around the lake to get your appetite for the evening meal. We had a Junior Suite which was lovely and had a side view of the lake. Highly recommend.
Epic. A hugely evocative hotel due to carefully curated furnishings (the result of a singular vision?). Very good restaurant. Our room was large, well appointed and had impressive views of the reservoir through all three windows. Excellent staff.
Absolutely amazing place, staff very friendly.
we opted for a Lake view, it was just breathtaking.
Food was delicious, hotel room had everything we wished for.
Stunning location, the room was absolutely beautiful. Attention to detail was spot on. One of the best hotels we've stayed in, would definitely return.
