Location brilliant, view and garden excellent. Breakfast was first class and a very big portion. Evening meal equally as good as breakfast large portions. All siting area very comfortable. Could not find nay faults, only friendly people that help and offer excellent services. The Star does not look much pulling up, but is a super value hotel. Staff, superb, food excellent and locals different class.
The room is basic, you would expect that, shower strong, bed comfy and facilities very good.

Auchencairn itself doesn't have many facilities, but there are lovely walks/cycle rides nearby and lots of interesting small towns to visit in the neighbourhood. I would recommend Kirkcudbright for individual shops and nice pubs/restaurants (The Selkirk) and Kippford for walks and views (The Anchor serves great food). Castle Douglas, Gatehouse of Fleet and Rockcliffe all worth a visit.
