Hotel du Mail is a lovely hotel in a quiet street which is a 5 minute walk to the Place du Raillement with it's shops/bars/ restaurant there and in the adjoining streets. Attractions (eg hotel de ville, chateau and Cathedral) are within easy walking distance (mainly flat). Our room (17) was spacious and comfortable with good storage/hanging space. Car parking on site was available - no reservation - at Eur15 per day. The owner was happy for us to leave our car at the hotel until 230pm on the day of our departure if we wished. Breakfast (Eur13) could be reserved the night before - we didn't take this up and opted to walk into town to find a cafe. Point to note - many of the bars/restaurants are closed on Sunday evenings (off season).

Sophisticated Angers sits by 3 rivers draining into the Loire, and the imposing walls and turrets of its 13th-century fortress are a complete contrast to the other Loire Valley castles. The former Plantaganet seat, the castle is surrounded by landscaped gardens and a smaller castle inside contains the medieval Apocalypse Tapestry.
More modern tapestries are in St John’s Hospital, one of the oldest in Europe, by St Aubin’s Tower which was once part of an abbey. Ronceray Abbey sits amid half-timbered buildings on a street which continues over Verdun Bridge to St Maurice Cathedral, whose twin spires tower over Angers. Pavement cafes on the square behind overlook Adam’s House.
The main square - Place du Ralliement – houses the Grand Theatre and restaurants and bars serving Anjou wine and locally distilled Cointreau. Shopping streets surround it and nearby are the Fine Art Museum and Logis Pincé classical museum.
The court building overlooks the elegant Jardin du Mail, while the Jardin des Plantes are the oldest botanical gardens in Angers. The Terra Botanica amusement park is on St Aubin Island, one of several within the rivers. St Nicholas Lake has been artificially created, as has Maine Lake where there is a watersports centre.
The Angers accommodation on Booking.com includes luxury city centre hotels and cheap apartments near the train station.

Nice town great as stop over point on route to further French destination ( Bergerac for us). Pretty old town we enjoyed the tourist train which gave us a quick guided tour. Plenty of restaurants, tourist office and cafes and shops.

Angers is a beautiful city with stunning architecture and castle. Lots of winding streets, cobblestones and history everywhere. With lots of street cafes, bars and restaurants, it’s difficult to get your steps in before stopping for a crepe, galette or pastry.
Vineyards are everywhere and the Anjou wines are a must.
With a thriving student population, nightlife is good and varied and public transport is well served with buses and trams.

Angers is a fascinating small city on the Loire.
Angers is a fascinating small city on the Loire. And they do a great thing.....which is to mark on the pavement with a blue line the route to all the major sights. Even with a map this was excellent and helped us find out way with far fewer wrong turns than normal! Every tourits city should think of doing this.

Beautiful city. So artistic.
Beautiful city. So artistic. Thrilling architecture with so much history. I loved it. Clean & tidy. Not happy with the misuse or bad driving of scooters & it seems, sadly, that even clean & tidy cities like Angers can’t or won’t solve the problem many homeless & mentally ill wandering the street.

Only there for an evening walkabout but the castle/ramparts were quite extraordinary. The old town was also interesting with many old buildings.
Untypical of us, a couple in our late 70s we eat in an American style diner. It was a Monday and not much open. My wife and I lingered whilst eating our burgers listening to some memorable 60s music. A night to remember!
The apartment was great, clean, good shower and fully equipped kitchen. It had little extras like phone charging points near the bed. The host friendly and helpful he was understanding when our alarm didn't go off, allowing us to have breakfast before leaving. Really loved the hens and chicks even the protective rooster that really made us laugh. I was so jealous of the duck lamp in our bedroom. Angers is a lovely city, thank you for the city tips you gave us and directions due to the road works
A very convenient location a few steps from the center of Angers, making it convenient to everything but a bit quieter than if it were in the exact center. The studio room is small and simple, perfect for one person or a couple - well-fitted, comfortable, and clean. The air-conditioning was helpful - we used it briefly. The entry is through a very pretty garden which is available for use.
Very nice and friendly staff, Anthony, Jarod and Thomas. We had some issue on the road and arrived at 1am, still Anthony gave us a welcome. The hotel room is well equipped and newly furnished. A supermarket is available just across the street. We had a cozy stay at Angers with Mercure.
Lovely comfortable hotel with comfy rooms and beds. Helpful and friendly staff. Good secure space for our 4 bicycles.
Excellent location for the Chateau Angers with the exceptional Apocalypse Tapestry - a must see and the lovely ancient part of Angers.
The room is very good and in a great location to access the city centre . It is a few minutes walk from everything !
The bed is very comfortable, everything was clean and the kitchen is well equipped
Hotel is nice, rooms are clean and look nice, well designed look, very nice and stylish bathrooms... The breakfest was good and stuff was helpfull. Hotel has own parking. Location is very convenient.
Superb location right opposite the Chateau in the centre of Angers. Very warm welcome and helpful reception. Excellent breakfast. Very good value for money for a comfortable city centre room.
Good location to stay and explore Angers. Our room was a good size with a large comfortable bed. A very nicely appointed boutique hotel. Would definitely return and recommend to others.
Warm friendly hosts, two interested and interesting girls who run the hotel, old world charm, right in the centre of beautiful Arles, breakfast and owners chat was terrific.
The location was perfect for us, and not too far from downtown. The studio, the equipment, the amenities were very good. Would love to book there for my next trip in Angers.
It was right on the center square in Angers, with the restaurants, shops and excitement of the life there. it was modern, clean, and roomy, our host was great.
Excellently located midway between the town centre and the hospital. Very quiet location within easy reach of public transport, supermarkets and restaurants.
