Room was larger than expected although bathroom was a little small. Bed was a King size or very large double & very comfortable. Parking for my car was very secure.

Hotel Rural Isasi is set in a large and beautiful botanic garden with different types of trees from around the world. The Isasi is consisted of of a main building with a reading lounge.

The hotel has a great deal of character but its immediate surroundings are not great for an overnight stay. There is no village community or obvious short walks nearby and the nearest café/bar is a couple of miles away. The room however was attractively furnished and decorated and we appreciated the provision of coffee etc in a common room. The fact that we were there on a Monday ruled out nearly all fish options for supper and the meat dishes that we were offered were, we thought, on the expensive side. With an early start we did not stay for breakfast. The journey to the ferry port was brief and, from that point of view, the hotel is very well-placed.
Occupying the 17th-century Santa Isabel Convent in the Basque village of Gordexola, Komentu Maitea is located a 15-minute drive from Bilbao.

We were so happy and comfortable in our accommodation that we really didn't visit anywhere local apart from a supermarket 15 minutes drive away. However the countryside around the property is stunning and the view of the church in Galdames always delightful. If you want peace and quiet (as well as everything else Artesoro Baseria has to offer), this is the place for you. Bilbao (which we didn't visit) is nearby. We did go to Castro Urdiales one day and thought it was very attractive with good restaurants. Make sure you have Google Maps as the location can be a little tricky to find!
