The staff were all very helpful and friendly. Most spoke good English which helped us poor German speakers. Our room was spotlessly clean and full of character. It had a great view of the castle and a lovely balcony.
Breakfast was really good quality, it was served to the table in a classically decorated dining room. i.e. not a buffet.
The hotel is only a short walk into town an ideal location for walking in the countryside.

I really enjoyed my stay at the hotel. The room is clean and spacious, equipped with everything you need. Breakfast is good. I was especially pleased with the surprise that the hotel staff arranged for my birthday - for breakfast our table was festively decorated and my wife and I received a glass of dry sparkling wine. Very good short trekking route with a beautiful observation tower in the end.

Wernigerode is a picturesque small town worth visiting.
Wernigerode is a picturesque small town worth visiting. The main attraction (especially if not German) is the steam rail network of HSB with numerous routes of which the most preferred is the assent to the Brocken mountain. The town offers more attractions and places to see though. Food selection is rather limited and the dining hours typically German.

The big draw is the narrow gauge steam railway.
The big draw is the narrow gauge steam railway. There is also plenty of walking in the surrounding countryside. My interest is in mining history, and this is right in the centre of the mining area, with show mines including the Rammelsberg world heritage site. My other interest is in Romanesque architecture and the town is well situated for exploring the Strasse der Romanik - a trail of Romanesque churches, cathedrals and castles. Wernigerode itself is a very pretty town, and has been beautifully restored since reunification. it has a castle and a number of museums.

What a beautiful old town and a very handy base to explore the Harz area. A short walk to the Railway stations of both the Harz Railway where you can take a steam train to the Brocken summit - reputedly the home of witches, an the DB station where I would recommend a trip to nearby Goslar. There is one of those little tourist trains that can take you around the historic old streets in both towns. Wernigerode also holds outdoor music festivals in the Market Square in August.

Wernigerode is a small place which can be explored within a day including the castle grounds. It is also a good place for hiking in the Harz mountains as well as a good base to explore neighbouring villages like Goslar, Bad Harzburg and Vieneburg etc, all just under an hour train ride away. One can also do a day trip up to the Brocken, highest mountain in the Harz region, from Wernigerode with the special steam train.
+ Beautiful historic-looking hotel with half-timbered frame, beams throughout the interior, and luxurious carpets
+ Lots of parking spaces behind the hotel
+ Friendly and competent staff who helped me carry my suitcase up two flights of stairs
+ Delicious breakfast and coffee
+ Spotless room and bathroom, lots of towels provided
+ Had a refrigerator in the room
+ Spacious room with lots of seating and a view of the castle
The room was well appointed and clean. The balcony with the view of the castle was perfect. The parking was very good. The hotel is very well situated and is only a short walk to the centre of the town. The staff were very friendly. The swimming pool was a real bonus and we used it a couple of times during our stay. The breakfast was very good, with plenty of choice. We would definitely stay here again.
Excellent location in the Marketplatz, their own beer was delicious as was the food. Good air conditioning in our room although the position of it means it has to work hard to keep the room cool. Great shower and the loo was automated which was freaky at first but really clever. Lovely quiet rooms (we were in room 131). The hotel has its own car park too and prices were reasonable.
What a great hotel. Beautiful, clean, comfortable, quiet. Nice sized balcony with a gorgeous view of the castle and local church. Within easy walking distance of stores and restaurants in the beautiful town. Free parking on the hotel grounds. Breakfast was delicious, made to order and brought to our table, I loved having a full pot of coffee waiting for me. We will stay here again!
The host was super nice and friendly and thoughful to prepare us hotel-like facility, plus some small things like coffee, sugar, salt and pepper, and don't forget the cute fully equipped kitchen, that gave us no worry about food during our stay. It took us 10-15min to walk to Netto and NP nearby to grab groceries and we cooked simple brunch and dinner there.
Amazing location to be able to walk to everything in Old Town. We went for the Christmas Markets and it was so convenient! The apartment was very well decorated, clean, and comfortable for 4 adults. Also, the host came to help right away when we needed help with the door code. I would highly recommend this stay in Wernigerode!
You can’t beat he location - the property is footsteps away from anywhere you want to be (in town).
The castle is about a 30 min walk - wasn’t as bad as I was thinking.
The property managers are very nice and informative.
Check in was a breeze.
This hotel was a great value! The family and I are very happy.
Check-in was fast and easy, and the lady at the front desk helped with info and timetables, as well as sending a fan to the room. Breakfast was delicious and the attendants were very helpful and kind. Also, while the view from our room was not great, the location of the hotel was perfect.
The hotel, right in the middle of the Wernigerode old town, minutes away from the often photographed town hall. The hotel, is in an old building, that has been tastefully restored with all the comforts. The breakfast, was great. The hosts went out of their way to make my stay enjoyable.
A very well-located hotel for those interested to explore the Harz Mountains and one of the towns on the timber-framed trail. Very good facilities, good drinks can be purchased at a convenient time. Courteous staff. Tasty breakfast. Parking at the hotel
The staff were very friendly and helped us with steam train tickets. Vegetarians have many options at breakfast. The hotel is very picturesque and located next to a small ski jump facility. My young daughter and I had fun and will definitely come back.
Exactly what we were looking for: a quiet, comfortable place for a relaxing weekend. The hotel is super kid-friendly and has a playing room for them. Our daughter loved it (so much that it was hard to take her for a walk...)!
Everything! The moment we all got there I liked the hotel! It's been a dream of mine to come to Wernigerode for the steam railway there, so I'm over the moon with the place! Can't wait to come back! Absolutely adore it there!
The apartment Altstadtidylle 3 is a very nice and relaxing place to stay in the old town of Wernigerode, under the roof of a nicely renovated old house. All is in very good state and the landlord & lady are very pleasant.
The apartment was spotlessly clean and well furnished. Perfect location for sightseeing in Wernigerode. Quick and convenient access via door code and key lockbox, no need to arrange key pickup.
All facilities and all rooms were very clean, tidy and just like new. Very well managed hotel. The breakfast was fantastic, with a huge buffet and even lactose-free products.
There is a possiblity to charge your EV on location. This has to be first requested at the hotel.
Location is great, the rooms are large and beds are super
