Mainz is a fantastic city. It has all the flavors what I long for. The strong history heritage, z.b. Mainz dom; the best wein Jard region of the world, z.b Rhine Weingau; authentic German food; the active growing business environment; the city is not big but just big enough for everything. Mainz is the city , the longer you stay, the more you love and you will go away. Ich liebe Mainz.

Mainz is a relatively small city founded in Roman times and
Mainz is a relatively small city founded in Roman times and
sits where the Rhine and Main rivers meet. Some Roman ruins still remain.
There is plenty of good shopping, places of interest and some great restaurants, a couple of days in the city is probably enough.
The Rhine forms the border between Rhineland Palatinate and Hessen, so you may need different travel tickets if you leave Mainz itself.
To see further afield, either the rhineland or hessen day tickets give up to five people unlimited rail travel for a very reasonable cost (about £30) so you can explore a large area cheaply.

I was there for work, so I didn’t act much as a tourist.
Anyway I think that Mainz is a rather typical German city with an interesting Altstadt and good transportation. All the other districts I visited were rather abandoned, with tones of waste on the streets and an air of what the French call “decadence”. I didn’t feel safe walking back to my hotel at night and for 4 whole days I didn’t meet just one policeman.

Mainz is a great place to stay if you're flying into/out of the Frankfurt airport. A short 20-minute ride via the S Bahn takes you to a peaceful town with an amazing amount of things to see.
In addition to the Gutenberg Bible Museum, this small but clean and safe city has an amazing Dom and Aldstadt to visit.
The welcome letter says that Hotel-Hammer wants "to attract guests who feel at home with us." SCORE! This place is great. Just steps across the street from the Mainz train station. Someone to welcome you at the front desk 24/7. They cheerfully held half of our luggage for two days while we went off on a side trip. The breakfast buffet is excellent—abundant, artfully served and delicious. Pizza, tart flambé and lobby bar are available 24/7. Mini-fridge in the room, too! What more could you want?
A last minute booking for our holiday and the best of the 4 hotels we stayed at. Never heard of this hotel chain but would definitely check out their other hotels. The room was very large and modern, contained a double bed and a bunk bed for the children. The breakfast room was also very modern and the breakfast quality was excellent! There is no restaurant for an evening meal but we found a great pizzeria in the old town. Definitely recommend!
Very nice hotel, quite new and super clean. Bed was comfortable, and rooms spacious (we stayed in a family room with bunkbeds). Common areas were very nice, and there was a nice atmosphere around. Staff very friendly. Good breakfast, included in the price. A bit outside the center, but close by car. It is easy to park around (free also).
This hotel never disappoints! I've stayed here many times in the past 15 years and will stay there again when I'm in Mainz. Staff is extremely helpful and accommodating. Breakfast is awesome! Proximity to bus and train is a definite plus.
Breakfast was what I expected. Everything necessary for a good start to the day.
Hotel is situated on the outside of the environment emissions zone and from the hotel to Mainz downtown is a 30 minute walk along the Rhine …
Lovely staff and accommodation! I had help with everything I needed from the staff and the conditions were very pleasant as well. I highly recommend the hotel if you’re looking for a place to spend the night in Mainz.
The hotel was clean and had a good amount of space in the room and toilets. Comfortable beds too. The location was generally central and quiet, near the train station but quite a distance with big luggages.
Ideal if you travel by train and want to reach the main station swiftly – about a 10 minute walk. Hotel is clean and neat, room was spacious and comfortable enough. Good and plentiful breakfast.
Comfortable beds and a wonderful breakfast right in the heart of Mainz. Their dinner was great as well, and were able to accommodate us when we were rained out of the nearby Christmas Market.
Breakfast was good. Room as expected.
Small amount of off street space belonging to the hotel where I was able to park my Motorbike free of charge.
Close to Mainz centre and amenities.
The hotel rooms are very clean and the atmosphere is very sweet. If I come to Mainz again, I will definitely stay at this hotel. thanks for everything.
What a lovely surprise: beautiful hotel by the river, 10 minutes walk from the old town, great pool and gym and most loveliest and welcoming staff ever!
This was our 2nd visit to the hotel. As before very friendly staff, excellent food and service. Location is perfect for exploring the old town of Mainz.
