Die Reichsstadt - Hotel Spa und Restaurant, hotel in Gengenbach

This 4-star hotel features outdoor pool area, free Wi-Fi, a sauna, and a lounge area with fireplace. It is centrally located in Gengenbach, just 550 metres from Gengenbach Train Station.

We were upgraded to a deluxe room by the very friendly and helpful concierge. The hotel was quite nice, spaces a bit larger and nicer than other hotels we stayed in in Germany. Nice little swimming pool and hot tub out back, with comfy robes provided by the hotel. Hotel is connected to a nice restaurant on the main street, where we enjoyed a really good lunch. The town of Gengenbach was quite lovely.

Location is fabulous, and the hotel is lovely. Good breakfast, delicious dinner. Very nice staff who helped with organizing train travel and visit to Baden Baden. Schwarzwaldhotel Gengenbach, hotel in Gengenbach

Set opposite Gengenbach’s historic centre, this 4-star hotel on the banks of the river Kinzig boasts a relaxation area, fine Black Forest cuisine, and easy access to Offenburg’s exhibition grounds.

The room was spacious, modern and clean. The shower was excellent. Easy walking distance to the Altstadt. The only downside was that you couldn’t control the room temperature yourself from the room. You had to contact reception.

Gengenbach itself is a very small little town but quite cute. The food is predominantly Italian - still don't know why. In town itself I don't think you need more than a day, but you are close to Strassburg and several other small towns, hikes and wineries nearby.

We chose Gengenbach as a base as it was easy to get train to other places and go for local walks. It is a pleasant village which is quite picturesque. It is not touristy. There are quite a few restaurants. Menus only in German so make sure you have a phrase book!

What an amazing village and the location of the property was perfect. In the evenings the entire family (8) met at the cafe owned by the property owners and had ice cream, dessert, wine and or beer. DELICIOUS!! It was a lovely way to end each day. We all want to come back!

This is a small friendly town with lots of dining options, a museum, a night-time tour of the town with a historical talk by the Nachtwaechter, beautiful church. In December the Rathaus is turned into the "world's largest Advent calendar."

A real Schwarzwald Town with all the 'old' buildings. Loved it. Restaurants open at 6pm for evening meal. Traditional German food, but also Italian. Not sure about other food types. Backery and Ice Cream open all day. Relaxed feeling while being there.

    1) Gengenbach is a picturesque and quaint town in the Black Forest region. It has good transport connections to other towns in Black Forest and makes a good base for visiting Black Forest. 2) Unfortunately when we were there in end-Sep 2022, there were numerous train delays between Gengenbach and Munich and on many routes throughout Germany. On our 2nd day there, a strike in France went on for 36 hours and caused reduced train service and worse train delays. Train schedules were so fluid that they changed from as frequently as every 30 mins. All this added an additional 5 hours to our total travelling time between towns in Black Forest, which originally would have taken only about 2 hours both ways. It was very trying and almost ruined our experience in Black Forest. 3) Gengenbach is mostly German-speaking and the shops, restaurants and hotels had few English-speaking staff. We were the few Asian people there and at most of these places, we received many long stares and people were always very surprised to hear us speak fluent English. 4) At Frei (Steinkellerhaus) restaurant, we walked in to ask for a table for 4. The restaurant was only half empty. A male waiter rudely told us that he had a table but their menus were only in German and they had no English menu. When we politely asked it if it was possible for him to let us know the menu items in English, he became even more rude and angrily told us that we had to translate the menu into English ourselves using the Internet and looked ready to kick us out of the restaurant. We found this terribly offensive and left immediately. 5) It is truly unfortunate that such a picturesque area which has inspired world famous fairytales, is the home of Black Forest cake and ham and whose main industry is tourism, has limited itself by language. If only it catered better to English-speaking tourists …

Perfect location! So pleased we stayed in Gengenbach. Our hosts were friendly and very welcoming. The apartment was clean and the perfect size for the 2 of us. Comfortable bed and well equipped kitchen. It was also handy to be able to use the washing machine and dryer to wash our clothes. We would definitely stay here again if we ever get to visit the Black Forest again.

We had a lovely stay at this hotel. Something thing's to keep in if you would like towels more often. We were told they only change towels every five days and there was a fee of 3 euros fee if you wanted towels daily. After reviewing policies and extra fee's. I did not see the extra towel fee. I would highly suggest adding that to acrew fee's area.

Lovely hotel - very clean and comfortable. Good powerful shower. Worth paying the extra for a balcony. Nice breakfast with lots of choice - eggs to order. On the outskirts of town - approx an easy 20 min walk to restaurants. Wouldn't hesitate to return if in the area. Plenty of free parking.
